  1. His technique just isn't very good - a huge limiting factor in any potential he might have.
  2. Seemed an odd crowd there today. Saw one bloke coming to the ground with a small rocking horse - not quite sure what happened to him.

    Shola Ameobi

I am not Shola's biggest fan - he has no place in our team or on the bench. But you are letting your bias get in the way if you are actually regarded his performance today as being poor.

Not hard to grasp - he did a decent job when he was on the pitch. That's all.
  5. Wiki says 39 goals in 76 matches. I wouldn't say that 1 goal every 2 games is great by Dutch standards?
  6. I have to confess to not knowing much about De Jong but looking at his career stats, it doesn't look like he has ever been a prolific scorer?
  7. We had him for 5 years and theres no way he's been an awful player for that whole time. Last couple of years he's been poor to average but only a handful of games he's been 'awful'. When we signed him he was very highly rated across the globe. Both Messi and Maradona have publicly stated their appreciation of him in the past. Robert also had plenty of awful games for arguments sake.. Agreed - Jonas was rarely awful for us.
  8. Bellamy and Robert, although better players than Jonas, were difficult characters that divided supporters with their antics. It isn't exactly a surprise that people might look to the character of the player in question when expressing emotions relating to the player's departure.
  9. I think the point is that Jonas was a likeable player and someone who was nowhere near as bad as people like to make out. His performances certainly dropped off last season and I don't think anyone is sad to see him leave at this stage from a purely footballing perspective but it is wrong to overlook the contributions he has made.
  10. I've watched this tackle again and again - it isn't a good tackle, but I don't understand how it could be more than a yellow. I think the last challenge is a poorly timed attempt to get the ball. I don't think he is trying to hurt Nasri, it's just a bad challenge.
  11. Sad to see him go - not good enough for our starting eleven now, but was certainly a much better player than many on here like to make out.
  12. He's got a 27% points return against Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and man City while at Newcastle. Wenger has 32%. Rodgers at Liverpool is on 22%. I didn't realise that. Interesting reading.
  13. I obviously need to watch the tackle again, but it looked nothing more than a yellow to me?
  14. Could you get two more different levels of heading ability? I don't think I have even seen a worse header of the ball for a top class striker than Cole and a better one than Les.
  15. He really didn't. He was awful at saving penalties.
  16. Some people can't or won't see past the result for some reason, it we don't get beat we've done enough. The whole ethos of the club is dumbing down expectations - even if we went 8 games without winning, people would still point at the run we are on now and hold the view that its all we can expect....sadly unless we get a change of owner or attitude at the top, that IS all we can expect. Most fans will view a Top 10 finish as a 'good season'. I am not sure if that many would regard top 10 as anything other than about par or slightly below par to be honest.
  17. Hardly Hughton's fault that Pardew's record in the Championship and League One with several teams is fairly dire. I think it's fairly clear that the team that Hughton had in the Championship was streets ahead of anything that Pardew managed. Probably more relevant to compare their Premiership managerial records. Also, certainly in recent years the team Pardew has had in the premiership is streets ahead of what Hughton has managed. Agreed - although that hasn't stopped people suggesting they'd rather have Nolan and Barton in the team now ..!

  19. I assume that the championship winning season boosts Hughton's stats a fair bit.
  20. Which he never will - he's injury prone and a crock basically.
  21. Yep - massively overrated as a CM.
  22. I never quite worked out why people were so quick to write him off.
