Not worthy of a thread - 2018 FIFA World Cup edition

Wavin Flag was genuinely class -
Jamaal Lascelles (now playing for League One Leicester City)

And scored 23 goals. If you remove penalties (I kna I kna) he would have finished top scorer in the league. -

I don't think it's any comparison personally like, Gayle was arguably the best striker we've seen in the Championship era - he was completely ridiculous. -

How the fuck did Gayle not win last year? -
I'd have hammered the sports direct lettering into the East Stand myself if Ashley had put a pig roast on like.
-
it hasn't been thought through like. Getting a load of random blokes and children pissed and sending them off to fit sports stadia.
-
Southgate also snubbed Joe Hart but insisted that the goalkeeper could still fight his way back into England’s squad in the future. "Absolutely Joe could play again. I pick payers on form."
-
It's a well worn point now like but it's fucking outrageous you can know so little about football yet be paid handsomely to report on it.
-
This would be like getting an overseas call from your fatha telling you he's joined fucking ISIS.
-
I'd say relying on players who've been shite all season somehow being good is a bit of a gamble like.
-
I know. I can barely remember a mistake he's made. In terms of mistakes that have led to goals you must be able to count them on 1 hand like. In comparison Maguire who's on the plane made fucking 2 in 1 game against us
-
It's stupid like, a lot of Tottenham fans don't even rate Trippier either (who'll be playing RB if Walker is in the middle).
-
It makes a difference in that people just want something to get behind and maybe see some momentum build. I can't see anyone thinking it'll take us much further or anything. In terms of that I agree, didn't think of that really as I'm so disillusioned with England tbh. This is why I wanted Shelvey and Lascelles to go They've unquestionably earned the right imo so it's massively annoying that we cannot see then in an England shirt. Beyond that the squad he has picked is just dull and tbh really fucking weird - the fact he somehow achieved that oxymoron is a testament to him I suppose.
-
He'll have brought Phil Jones as he played in midfield ages ago for example.
-
I honestly reckon Southgate thought he was cheating the 23 player system by bringing 'utility' players like - in his mind I think he believes he's brought the equivalent of a 40 man squad or something. He's literally brought 2 players who consistently played in the centre last season - it's absolute madness.
-
I wouldn't be too surprised if we go out in the group stages like, Gareth Shouthgate's entire managerial career is literally being relegated with Boro and finishing last in the group stages of the U-23 Euros.
-
It's 100% Henderson and Dier like. Loftus-Cheek will be backup for Alli I would assume, I really like him but it'd be canny mental if Southate considers him a better fit than Shelvey in CM. The only player I can see fitting into a Southgate central midfield from the bench/reserve is Delph. A fairly average midfielder who's been playing as a left back in a team that despises defending for the past year.
-
Like back then I thought he was a no risk 'wildcard' we should have taken to sit on the bench for when we're struggling to break a team down or for the final 15 minutes in games that are stretched. Now I think he should be starting alongside Dier or Henderson. Because he was ignored back then, now that he's (unsurprisingly) turned his form around it's harder to take him - so we end up with arguably England's best midfielder on current form sitting back home.
-
I mean you can like as it was him who was responsible for that. He was pissing about starting Jake Livermore and Jack Cork. Yeah at points of the season when Shelvey wasn't particularly worthy of a call-up. A year in the Championship followed by a pretty crap start to the season meant he wasn't even a guaranteed pick for us. Did very little prior to the September/October games to warrant selection and by November Rafa had dropped him. Only real chance he would have had was for the two games in March which were both friendlies by which point nobody was realistically going to break into the setup for the WC who hadn't already been involved. Even when we were shite (and he was shite) it was still apparent that he offered something no other players in contention could offer, he should have been in because trailing him was pretty much a no lose situation which could have had huge rewards, no other player in contention can pass a ball like him, very few can in world football - Southgate just prefers 'solid' players. At his worst Shelvey still makes a load more sense than Jake Livermore and Jack Cork imo, if it gets to a point where you're starting Jake Livermore you're pretty much out of the tournament anyway.
-
And only 2 dedicated central midfielders. The squad is just weird tbh.
-
He absolutely loves an average but versatile or reliable player like. I'm not sure anyone's told him that the tournament is a maximum of 7 games long.
-
I'd love to know the reasoning behind bringing both Ashley Young and Fabian Delph like.
