We are limited massively by FFP, I don't think many would dispute that, just the 'strict budget' stuff. We kust don't seem interested in buying players unless they're a main target and for a good price.

Until we see the fee (if it happens) nobody can say it's dodgy - there's obviously a fair value for him (probably around 30-35m). If he goes for 50-60m then we're obviously taking the piss

I think Maxi's end product is massively underrated but he's a far way off Barnes like.

The dream would be Maxi staying, playing 45+ games across all competitions and integrating fully into Howe's style of play. The other, more likely side of the coin is he's a £40m(?) wildcard who will likely be injured for 1/3 of the season and be chasing fitness for most of the rest. Joelinton, Miggy, Murphy, Isak and possibly Gordon all ahead of him. Barnes looks about as close to a guaranteed 20+ goal contributions a season in all comps as we could get.

It seems the perfect move for Maxi like, as much as I love him he's not the elite level he sees himself as in the Premier League. This allows him to play alongside and against "other greats" while building up a crazy highlight reel rinsing Arabian painter decorators.

Dubravka is a really solid shot-stopper and Lascelles is a prime age no-nonsense centre back with plenty of Premier League experience, he seems great to have in the dressing room as well. They seem perfect for a promoted side but they can probably get better value (at least on paper) elsewhere. Forrest showed what you can buy for similar fees.

FFP is only an issue if we buy poorly. I could see why Maxi staying or going would determine us going for Barnes as they would be competing for the same position, but we could spend another 60m sorting our defence out and not be in danger of breaking FFP. I just cannot see how Maxi effects that. If we can get them at our price you would imagine we will, regardless of any sales. EDIT: We'll sign Livramento (if we're after him) when Southampton break on the price.

We will offer him a new contract though if Howe sees him in his plans. The point is that if we sell Maxi it's not because we're on the brink of breaking FFP like is being reported it's because he's just not worth the squad place in relation to his transfer fee (not necessarily my opinion).

He's said the same thing for nearly 2 year. People have worked out roughly what we can spend and we're a million miles away from needing to sell to buy this window. It doesn't even make sense on a basic level as the only way to make money on transfers is to buy players first off. Us just not having a left back of any value doesn't improve our FFP situation, we'd literally be better off after buying someone who's value increases - it's just finding the right players and bedding them in. We'll have players we want to sell as they're not in our plans, but we aren't in a position where we can only sign Harvey Barnes and a LB if we sell Maxi this window otherwise we'll breach FFP. We could sell Maxi next summer and it's not a great deal different.

I don't mind FFP with how it's affecting us in isolation. We've spent a canny bit and can spend a canny bit more. Howe is a compulsive liar. Clubs like Chelsea failing consistently but still being allowed to take the piss is just irritating to see though. Meanwhile Everton are completely fucked for trying to compete.

Barnes looks an outrageous finisher which could work a treat given the amount of touches we see in and around the box.
