Chris Waugh has done a good piece in the athletic looking into what they are going to try and do at the start of chapter 2 in the summer.
-
As others have mentioned his movement and pace occupies several defenders, that gives Saint and others more room to operate. Forest will come out at us and he’ll be vital and deadly for our counter attacking.

Isak, Saint and possibly Miggy can cause their defence all sorts of problems. Sure they’ve had a decent record at home recently but their defence looked woeful even at home against Everton. We’ll get loads of chances, just have to stick them away. -
I think he’s playing under 100% re his ankle. Not enough to keep him about but slows him down a bit
-
Yeah I thought he was solid as
-
Another goal scoring midfielder and two new wingers who can finish etc
-
Must be a nightmare to defend against
-
Until we find some flow again we’re going to have to grind wins out. Bruno clearly playing with an ankle niggle imo. Our play first half should’ve really killed the game off. Fair play to them though ?
-
Big win, 3 points vital today
-
Silly boys
-
Need to get an earlyish goal second half and kill the game
-
I like the lad but he’ll be a squad player from next season.

Newcastle United vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers: 12/03/2023 @ 4.30pm (Sky)

It’ll be whether we can break them down and manage their counter attacks with Traore. I’m not that confident of us breaking teams down but we’re creating chances and at some point they’ve got to start scoring goals ffs. Crowd needs to stay with it in this one. -
I think Saint will be offloaded in the summer with another couple wingers coming in to rotate with Gordon and Miggy but higher quality. Seems pretty clear we’re going to need a new striker looking at how Wilson is floundering.

Huge opportunity with Liverpool losing, have to finally turn those changes into goals, no more dicking about. -
?? that’s fair enough. If I see him again next time I’ll lay down the law ??
-
Dan Ashworth was sat next to me in my local last night, I should’ve asked him who we were signing ?
-
I think we’re going to have to go pretty hard in the transfer window this summer to satisfy the likes of Bruno re ambition

Exactly. Proper coaching pays huge dividends as we’ve already seen but intimately you have to upgrade positions with better quality. Ultimately Burn, Longstaff maybe even the likes of Miggy, Wilson will become more squad based players or certainly far from guaranteed starters. -
I agree with all of that and I’m certainly not blaming him for all our defensive frailties. Moving forwards for our overrall play we need a better left back or more “purer” left back.
-
I think he still has a massive role to play. Solid starting or back up CB and can fill in at left back but no way should he be starting left back moving forwards.

I’m maybe not as confident as 4-0 but I think we’ll win. We simply have to start finishing off chances though and there’s pressure on players to do so because it won’t be long until summer and the final 3rd is where we’ll see upgrades. -
It’s getting pretty boring hearing along the lines of “Newcastle created plenty of chances again but couldn’t convert them”
-
I think if the club want to push on and as there’ll prob alt be a fairly huge window in the summer upgrading the number 9 position will almost certainly need to happen. I agree I’m not sure Wilson would be happy with the backup role so may end up going to a lower prem club for more game time.

I agree top four is still within reach but we’re going to have to start finishing off chances to do it and that included cementing a 5th or 6th place finish. Our attacking players including the midfielders just aren’t clinical enough though and that’ll be addressed in the summer I think.
