Ashworth will still have some influence on quality talent in conjunction with scouts, that’s just my point. I agree we need more attacking options, I just think it’ll come in the form of players further forward such as right wing slot given we’ve already spent 50+ on Tonali.
-
Also means say Tonali plays a champions league fixture then Longstaff comes in for the league fixture a few days later, just allows greater rotation. Or vice versa etc
-
? I think ASM stays left side, rotates with Gordon and on occasion Joelinton. Right side is new signing, Miggy, Murphy when needed.
-
I think winger and left back are the most urgent positions to fill. A goal scoring winger who can open teams up on the break and against tight defences at home would be massive. A new left back improves our overall play too. This is probably why we’re moving away from targets people thought we were originally going for.
-
So he had no influence on any incoming talent as director of football? ? And on Tonali, no he’s not the same type of player obviously but I hazard to guess that they believe he can have all manner of positive knock on effects on our midfield and general play including Bruno having the option of more influence further forward.
-
I think he’ll be here next season unless we get a concrete offer which makes financial sense to sell. ‘If’ he can stay fit I actually think he’ll have a good season too but he just struggles to stay fit.
-
Thats a good summing up ? Again as with the Maddison deal I think Tonali has changed things. Tonali will offer dynamism in midfield, Bruno will have more influence going forwards as a result, Willock will improve I’m sure. They’re probably thinking they could do with more pace, goals and creativity as you say. I think we’ll see money spent on a more traditional winger type player.
-
That’s how I see it plus look at some of the diamonds Ashworth has pulled out for Brighton recently. I’m not worried at all.
-
We’ve been pretty ruthless moving on Bruno, Isak and Tonali
-
I think we will go for a more out and out creative winger. Our midfield is sorted.
-
He looks like a great player and given I cannot stand Liverpool in general bar a few sound pounds a i know so yeah it’s a little frustrating but you make a great point about being realistic where we are currently. We’re slowly posing these teams off more and more for me and that’s good enough for me ?
-
It’ll be bonkers ? Some people will completely forget about how well we’ve done so far in transfers and that Howe and Ashworth understand exactly what’s needed and how to operate within FFP.
-
They clearly also have way more FFP wiggle room
-
Holt will be all over this. Fwiw human rights should absolutely be reported on and acknowledged but the one sided bias from journos (E. holt) to fit their agenda is ridiculous. Nobody gave a shit about the region when Ashley was here and now apparently plenty of them are ready to stick the boot in now.

The meltdown on here if he goes to Pool? Paqueta was the player everyone seemingly wanted last summer

I think Tonali’s availability clearly changed things. They could see the huge impact he could have on midfield to help Bruno, control games and provide depth. He’s a proper player. I think they liked Maddison clearly but he dropped down in terms of priority with Tonali coming into play. We werent going to pay those wages and there was probably some doubts about fitting into our style of play. Tonali will allow Bruno to have more influence further up the pitch as well as offering options on set pieces etc. We still have ASM currently, Gordon will be fitter and stronger next season and we’ll undoubtedly still sign at least one attacker/winger this window probably for that right of 3 spot. We do still need more creativity and a Diaby type player would be more beneficial for us I think. Maddison is an excellent player but it’s probably taken it’s natural course in the end with him ending up at Spurs. -
The wages and age just don’t fit, not sure about the character either. Is he that much of an upgrade on ASM anyway purely ability wise? I don’t think so.
-
I would judge that at the end of the transfer window not end of June. Howe, Ashworth et al have done pretty well so far, I’m not worried at all.
-
I think he’ll be a completely different player next season

If we’re going to make our mark in the champions league Miggy doesn’t cut it really and Miggy isn’t going to be enough of a game changer in big league games. We need another game changer up there to break games open. -

Spurs will play him as more of a 10, we weren’t going to change our whole system for him. I think he would’ve still been a decent signing but I can see why the club haven’t gone for him. I don’t think they thought they could get Tonali and when they realised they could that probably changed things. We’re probably looking more at wide forward/winger with pace to be honest. -

We definitely need another player who can open teams up and score crucial goals in big games. I agree though Diaby will be too expensive. -

Yes I think we’ll sign an attacker for that very reason mate. We need more creativity and goal threat ?
