Then you followed it up with questioning how it was a good performance, when majority of our players have good/decent games. Especially when a fair few hadn't played much recently either. You even attend a fair few under 21 games so you should be positive of the way they performed, good to see even if it is a cup game.

Taking outthe whole context of everything surrounding the club and who the next tie is, ST. That performance soley, given the changes made to the side (obviously both sides did), what did you feel was wrong with the performance from the players tonight? Brett, this is the mentality that sees us bottom of the table with Alan Pardew still in charge. It would be OK if you could separate the 2, and be proud of a victory and a good team display from the wider picture but you can't. Each victory and display that suggests the players are still playing for Pardew just buys him more time, which ultimately means more time for him to drag us through this void of mediocrity and embarrassment. I may seem like a depressing, moaning, arsehole, but if everyone else was like me (and the others on this forum) then this utter muppet would have f***ed off a long time ago, we probably wouldn't be bottom of the table, and I could probably enjoy a League Cup victory away to Crystal Palace. That's a very good post, but just more praise should come for individual performers at least tonight rather than slating them for playing well as its a sign they back Pardew. Cisse got a few bits of abuse for his goals/comments about Pardew but end of the day, the players are still pulling on the black and white shirt and they still might care about winning football matches, even if a lot of fans have stopped till Pardew has gone.

Just feel the players aren't getting any sort of credit on here, which I personally think is unfair and harsh. Armstrong comes in, looks lively, good attitude about his play. Riviere getting his first goals. Haidara coming on making a real difference. Majority of sides field weak piss teams in the Carling Cup, I've always despised the comp for it but it's still a cup, and a cup I want to be in for aslong as possible. Saying Palace's team was abysmal is correct, but on paper, ours wasn't much better. We made the changes but our attitude and application throughout the game was much better than theirs, the players deserve credit for that.

Exactly. It's f***ing ridiculous. I think people are taking this insignificant win within the wider context of years s*** football, lies, contempt, and p*ss taking by Pardew and Jabba. Which is fine and understandable. Not being bothered about the win is one thing but then not seeing any positives in the players reactions or character is another. No need to be unhappy with that performance imo.

you don't half talk some s*** man What's s*** about that? I thought we were pretty much the dominant side for majority of the game. Should have put the tie to bed when 2-1 up and looking comfortable. Then to concede late on, go down to 10 men, would have been easy to fold or just limp on to pens but the players kept pushing on. Haidara down the left was excellent. If that's your barometer of a good performance like. Yeah I thought it was a good performance. Especially given the manner we usually pan these cups out! Thought there was some positive individual performances, notably Riviere getting his goals, thought Armstrong looked lively and did himself no harm, pleasing to see him. Don't think there was too much in that performance to be unhappy about. Made changes, players looked up for the game, didn't let their heads drop at any point and got us through to next stage. Only shame really is the next tie is a shocker. As much as we joke about it, I'd rather be in the tie playing the best sides in the cup than watching someone else and us already knocked out.

Fans just need to stick with Cabella and Riviere, these two will be absolutley fine. Cabella has shown a fair few more glimpses than Riviere but both have had very tough starts. Feel for both of them, think Cabella is the one will start to shine very soon. Riviere needs time out the side then possibly brought back in alongside Cisse.

Probably. From what he's shown so far, Championship is most likely. I still believe given a good run of minutes and injury free, he's capable on staying at a PL club. He's now 22 though and if he fails to produce this season, chances are he will be let go and he'll have a job on his hands to get backing playing for a PL club again if he demotes to the championship. I just don't think he has the ability for the top level. Though he has hardly been given a chance You see some of the shite in this league though and it's not really top level stuff. He's got a chance still. I'd have him starting over Gouffran, only player offering natural width in the side at present with Aarons injured.

Was happy for him to get on Saturday. Played really well in the reserve fixture on the Monday night and earned his cameo appearence, i was thinking he should have started instead of Gouffran. Hopefully he'll start against Palace and continue his decent form. He's still very unpredictable and hard to judge which way his career will go.

Twice stripped to come on, only told to be told to sit back down again. Then came on with about a minute of the game remaining. For a player who has had decent cameos, to be giving one minute of that match was awful. Only positive is that Gouffran actually done well to assist the second goal but he still should have been hauled off much earlier than he was.

It was a weird, unexpected atmosphere and game on Saturday. The protest fell way short of expectations and was very dissapointing however on the flip side of things, the support for the players and more importantly for Jonas was excellent. We were behind the team from the first minute and i'm sure they appreciated that. First half was fairly decent, should have been leading going into half time but we just lack any sort of killing instinct in the final third. Tiote back in the middle was a huge boost for the side, looked a lot more assured in the middle of the park. Was a good battle between him and Diame all game. Second half couldn't have got off to a worse start, Colback should know better than that and we got punished. Fans tbf still stuck by the team but the second goal killed all hope for fans and seemingly Pardew. Cisse had other ideas, aside from his goals, his attitude, commitment and touch of class was evident for all to see. Was a breath of fresh air seeing world class movement up top once again, something that Riviere had been solely lacking for weeks. The draw on the whole was awful, the comeback however was spirited but couldn't help walk out the ground thinking Cisse had saved Pardew his job once again with his heroics. Was a well earned point which we rightly deserved but Pardew still shouldn't be allowed to remain at the post, the treatment of Perez on the tocuhline was a shambles and cowardly. Fairly sure he was scared of going for the winner incase we conceded another.

He's always had the ability to have words with players but in terms of rallying or organising the side on the pitch as a captain should do, he's fallen way short in times of trouble. As a captain and main centre back of the side, i still can't believe he allowed Anita to mark the Palace player at the back post isolated in the dying minutes. It was clear for all to see what was going to happen. He was majorly at fault for that goal imo due to his lack of leadership and organisation, just switched off. The thing that's confused me about you is that Pardew is exactly the same bloke he was a year ago. Well, yes he is the same bloke. Far different when results aren't coming and players just look clueless. First half of last season we were in European spots battling it out near top four, second half of the season was relegation form and that's continued on. I've wanted him gone since he hauled off HBA at half time last season away to Southampton, that was my final straw. Backed him for as long as I possibly could hoping he might turn it around but things are now far too out of control. He should hold his hands up and walk, or ask Ashley for a settlement fee. His ego won't allow him to do that, it's soley down to Ashley to get him out.
