We’ve had a history of having brainless players like Shelvey that have little charm. The only thing that could stop him being a success is if he doesn’t feel settled and wants away after a short time with us. We’ve seen every player improve under Howe, especially when they’ve had a full pre-season and time to bed in. That will be harder for Tonali than most given there’s no Italian speakers in our team and he’s left his boyhood club. If he manages to properly settle and love living here then we’ll see the best of him. There’s clearly a fantastic player in there but we’ve not seen much of it so far

I love his emotion, it’s what feeds him. Think we just have to accept it’s a part of his game and to get the fire that comes out in a positive way, we have to accept that sometimes he’ll lose his head. Hard to accept given it will cost us at times but you have to make allowances for players of his quality that have his character
