Given that The Guardian's NE football correspondent Louise Taylor has previously been outed as a diehard Sunderland fan, I'm imagining that this article will lead to a car park brawl with Martina Hyde at some point.

  3. I'm not sure he was all that talented in retrospect. Not compared to what we have now, at least.
  4. Joey7Barton I don't half miss playing at St James's Park. Proper, proper football fans, city and stadium. #ToonArmy 7:06 PM Aug 18th via Twitter for iPhone
  5. McNally drinks in my local. Awful human being. Brays at the top of his voice like an absolute tool to a gaggle of drooling inbreds about what "Alan" told him that day.
  6. Maybe someone has posted this before, but you can download an iCal / .vcs file with all the fixtures from http://www.lattys.com/nufc_fixtures.html to import into Outlook / Google calendar / iCal. It's not adjusted for the recent TV changes. Still handy though.
  7. Bigirimana rhymes with banana. What could possibly go wrong?

    Alan Pardew

Newcastle's Pardew and Carver live on BBC Newcastle Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew and assistant John Carver are special guests on BBC Newcastle's Total Sport programme on Friday, 10 May. Pardew and Carver will join BBC commentator Mick Lowes from 1900 BST for an hour-long Q&A session. Pardew has led the club back into Europe for the first time since 2006-07 with a guaranteed top-five finish. The Magpies have a genuine chance of reaching the Champions League, but are already installed in the Europa League. In addition signings such as Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse have also drawn praise for the club's scouting team. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18008021?

  12. If we do finish 4th, we'll end up getting knocked out of the qualification round by someone like ŠK Slovan Bratislava and end up in the Europa League anyway.
  13. Me too. Witless giggsery is giggser than giggs. Or something.
  14. Some rumours he left the ground before the end of the match.

  18. I was told by someone who claims to be "ITK" that Nolan sat down with Mike Ashley around Christmas and told him in no uncertain terms that it was him, Barton, Smith and Harper who were responsible for Newcastle's upturn in fortunes and that they wanted new deals which reflected their status. Ashley didn't like that much. Pardew had already looked his fitness levels and alleged alcohol consumption and wasn't keen on keeping him. That pretty much put and end to the possibility of him getting the contract he wanted and opened the gate for Barton's exit too. Harper has since been frozen out (I'm told he is looking for a transfer to the USA for a final pay day). Smith is obviously just running down his contract. Out with the old, in with the new.
  19. This article is illuminating re agents: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/feb/12/the-secret-footballer-agents
  20. When he was going for a holiday he could just tick "no" to the criminal record question and take the risk - his record can't be linked to his passport. As long as the US authorities weren't alerted he's unlikely to get turned away at immigration control. For a tour with the club, well they're going to want to play by the rules and if they didn't you could be reasonably sure someone, be it via the press or some 'concerned individual' would most likely alert them that Joey was about to step off a plane.
  21. Someone has put the fixtures into a file that you can import into Outlook/iCal/Google calendar (pre-TV adjustments). See ... Edit: I just read the first post. Presume this counts as a banning offence. Sorry, link removed.
