berin y I'm a bit obsessed with doing those doubles. I'm getting 1 or 2 scorers ever week

The only player scoring being pushed out onto the wing helps the team? We'd be nearly bottom without his goals. Once Cisse wakes up things might change. Howay man, the team was functioning much better in the 4-3-3, he wouldn't be the only player scoring if we played as a team, it's basics. That, I agree with. If the manager can't find a way to get both 20 goal a season strikers scoring then the problem isn't with the strikers.

Ba is by far the best striker we've had since Shearer so he shouldn't be on the wing. We wouldn't play Shearer on the wing if Ferdinand wasn't scoring. Focus on the player scoring, not the one who isn't. *9 pages of boring tactics talk coming up*

He scored loads last season and has a few this season tbf. He'll always score goals but he's being replaced with younger players. Nolan-esque. Not sure what it's got to do with Benitez though. In the likely event he's not kept on, he'll be gone before they are.

We'll play badly but Ba will nick a goal to spare our blushes. I remember getting hammered for saying his goals are papering over cracks earlier this season (like this time last season) but dimber pls halp. He's our only hope. -
He played a simple ball to Marveaux who then did all the work. Good job you got your wish though, eh? Yeah, it is, he helped us qualify. Both of them? Two wins and three draws. Against Maritimo, Brugge and Bordeaux. Woooooo. As far as 'win at all costs', i'd prefer to top the group and have a better chance of avoiding the CL dropouts and the better teams in the competition thanks. We almost lost against Maritimo at home Avoiding CL teams makes no difference at all.

Nile Ranger has been handed a chance to resurrect his Newcastle United career after being included in Alan Pardew's squad for Sunday's trip to Southampton. And the striker - who started his career with the Saints before moving to Tyneside - has revealed how a new, improved attitude and work ethic has put him back into senior contention following his return from injury this month. Ranger scored on his first Magpies appearance since March when the under-21s drew with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Monday night and put in an eye-catching display in front of his manager, who was watching from the stands. The 21-year-old has played more than 50 times for Newcastle since making his debut in the Championship title-winning season of 2009/10 but fell out of favour with Pardew and failed to make an appearance in the Barclays Premier League last term. Part of the reason for that was because of the ex-England under-19 international's time-keeping but having recovered from a knee problem and reported to the training ground on time for the last few weeks, he will travel to St. Mary's this weekend. "My punctuality hasn't been the best and the gaffer said it would be six weeks of training with the Reserves and that I wouldn't be in his squads until further notice," Ranger admitted in an exclusive nufc.co.uk interview. "So I've just been getting in on time, training and putting my head down and doing what I do best. I'll just keep putting my head down and grafting." Last season, Ranger spent time on loan with Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday, helping the Owls gain promotion to the Championship by scoring the crucial second goal in a victory over Wycombe on the final day of the season. And he said: "I went there because I needed some games, so they called me up and I went there, played a few games and got a few goals. "I got a goal on the most important day which got them promoted. They were a good team who worked hard but it's always good to come back to your home club."

If we could play as a team the squad deficiencies wouldn't stand out as much. They do stand out as Pardew is picking individuals and hoping it gels.

Even the greatest attacking coach wouldn't be able to do much with just 1 day a week. Changing that "philosophy" alone would do wonders.
-
'But he will still not get back in the team unless he has a period of six weeks where he isn’t late. 'I don’t think it is going to happen. 'It is important, I’m not going to let him train with my first team because he is letting the other players down.' 'But maybe he doesn’t want to be a footballer.' Oh, Alan.

The question everyone needs to ask themselves is "can you see it getting any better?" Don't think about how to fix it or why we're doing as badly as we are, just simply "will it get better?" I honestly think we're in quicksand this season and Pardew has history with losing the dressing room and the crowd. He just isn't learning from his mistakes, which is unforgivable in such an important job.

Someone's gonna have a hangover tomorrow. I don't drink alcohol. Nor do I remember anything of note he did apart from a few tackles. Abeid probably had a good game too? Wasn't this about him not touching the ball apart from a tackle or two? He had so little impact that's how I remember it. I genuinely couldn't tell you any more than the 2 or 3 tackles. -

Maybe they should stop training too. Would the performance/result be any different if we'd have played more kids? No. Is the Southampton game massively affected? Yes. Players can get injured at any time. The suggestion that you should leave players out in case they get injured is completely f***ing ridiculous tbh. Would Ben Arfa be fit for the next 2 or 3 games if he wasn't playing tonight? Of course he would. When was he last inured in training? Ba went down inured at one point but luckily he was OK.
