A large part of the reason I'm (currently) annoyed is exactly that. Arsenal and Tottenham have, so far, had a bad/average summer and we could have sent a massive message to them by plugging the few holes in our team/squad. 4th position is so, so achievable.

Carroll tends to do well in big games for Liverpool; games that he's fired up for. I think the fundamental issue with Carroll's Liverpool career has been that he doesn't really give a s*** about the club and so can't get fired up for anything bit the big games. At Newcastle he was up for every match and he was f***ing unplayable most of the time. A lot of people here clearly have short memories... they need to watch back the Villa, Sunderland, Liverpool matches, even that opening match of the season against Man U! I'd love to see him back and playing for a club he loves with fire in his belly! Hughton dropped him briefly in his glorious 6 months run for playing badly btw. And as for loving Newcastle...

He can't get a game coz the manager dosnt want him, not coz he is s****. Carroll is better than Borini. Not always as simple as you are making out His last league goal at Anfield was in April 2011. Can't blame Rodgers for that.

So a player who can't get a game for a worse team would be our joint highest ever signing? Nostalgia ain't cheap.

What about deadline day with Beye & Faye? If we were to sign their equivalents this deadline day I think we'd be over the moon. I meant more post-Kinnear when Ashley stopped paying big fees. Forgot about Santon. To be fair though, we've only had 3 since then, one was in the Championship and as you mention, we got HBA in one of the others. This is the fourth so it's a bit unfair to say if there's a pattern or not yet. We need to act in the last 5 days now so I really believe we'll either get a bargain or 2 or we'll get nothing. Those late panic bids are a worrying prospect too.

I'm getting more annoyed the more days go by without even the slightest possibility of a player coming in. It's pathetic that we've only spent about £2million with 5 days left. The only good transfer I remember us completing this late in recent years was Ben Arfa who signed (on loan) on the 27/28th. Our transfer policy (low price or move on) just isn't likely to get results in the last week of the window.

Us not meeting their valuation is the only reason why this wouldn't happen.

I think Cisse will play for the same reasons as Cabaye would: to gain fitness. He's played nearly 3 full games in the last week. Giving him 20-30 mins at the end would be better for him imo.

I'd have said £25million but it's pointless if we'll still be penny pinching on our incoming transfers.

It's the new thing to do when you want followers and fame. No it isn't The complete opposite happens.

We should definitely stick to 4-4-2. It suits our creative players better imo.
