I have no specific thoughts on our current process, other than I wish we had better data people. I only hope we did not see Ashworth leaving as an opportunity to concentrate our bet on Howe's coaching and talent spotting abilities. He of course should have an important role. I think Howe is mostly quite good at recruitment and better than his critics think.

The skill required to do what he did with Bournemouth is immense, but it doesn't always scale to buying elite talent. Phil Giles has a PhD in applied maths (from Newcastle). He spent 8 years at Matthew Benham's SmartOdds in quant research (eventually running it), developing some of the formative models in football analytics, before impressing enough to be appointed as Brentford's co-DoF. I think he's better equipped for a data-led approach than anyone, and he's way more interesting than Ashworth.

The Semenyo shot was a tiny % of the accumulative xG we conceded, and one Dubravka should have saved. I don’t like Dan Burn, but he’s a cheap target.
