It's too easy to blame Isak when we've surely been aware of the plan to jettison Wilson for months. Reintegrating him is easily our best outcome, but I don't know how viable that is. His leverage increases a lot if we sign nobody.

Why not? There's obviously someone who is very bad at their job in, or filling in for, a critical function. I have no idea who it is, but the last two summers have been horrendous.

We have less money than the established cartel so we need to reliably invest our resources better. I think you'd have a hard time arguing this was a 90th+ percentile decision, especially with the journey that's taken us here.

I don't get who in the club thinks, with our disadvantaged resources, that this is the type of decision that makes us a permanent top 4 club.

Yes and no. Our revenues haven’t expanded enough for it to be irrelevant. We can certainly extract better value and a 175m or so on this guy, Elanga, Thiaw and Ramsey makes me a bit nervous

I think the Tonali consensus was that it was an overpay. I’d be inclined to agree that is still true, ie he has done well (better than I anticipated for sure) but we would probably struggle to recover our money, and certainly on inflation-adjusted terms.

I hope our process is more sophisticated than league=premier_league, goals_per_90>0.48 and then just buying whoever is on that list. That said, it doesn’t seem to be.
