There is a difference between someone playing so well that we are unable to keep hold of them, and them leaving because they don't see the club being able to match their ambitions. But you knew that right?

I think Howe had Mandy's ear. Big changes have happened this summer, and currently there are no really promising signs of things to come moving forwards.

Thinking back to the video of his first day at the club, with Trippier there to greet him - it all seemed so professional with us bringing in great characters, but both of them have let us and themselves down with their actions away from the pitch. Football, as life, is funny like that sometimes.

Everything feels rather flat so far this season. Hopefully the board can do their job and get some good players in and give everyone a lift and our season can begin from here.

It does feel a bit sad that we've lost someone who was so in love with the club, and clearly close to and loved by the players. A bit of that family feel we/they all talked about has gone.

This isn't any real barometer to set expectations by though. He's long gone, and people are well within their rights to opine that this summer has been a bit of a shit show so far

The real question is is this a deliberate strategy to look for players having poor seasons compared to their ability? I would argue no(as you allude to also) - it is simply the fact that Isak's quiet season allowed us the opportunity to sign him. If he had banged in 20+ again he would have had better options.

It might make the difference between having to sell someone this coming year then.
