I think one difference is that every player will have been fucked over by a club at least once in their career already, so they understand that it's up to the player to get everything they can out of their careers and it's up to the club to squeeze as much value out of the players as they can. There's an inherently adversarial relationship between labor and capital, and sometimes as fans we lose sight of that because it's hard to sympathize with millionaires. However, it's still the millionaires trying not to get fucked by the billionaires, just like you do your best not to get fucked by your company. Newcastle United FC doesn't give a flying shit if Isaac breaks his leg this year and can never play again, so if he has a chance to triple his salary he has to do it. Just like your company doesn't give a shit about you, and will have a job add out same day you can't work any more. These aren't collectives, they are corporations. Yes it sucks for our team how this played out, but guys, grow up, that's just how fucking sports work man. If you want to be mad at somebody be mad at the club for not negotiating an acceptable salary for their star player. Or better yet, grumble a little bit and then move on, we've got good replacements in and the champions league to look forward to. Getting mad at Dan fucking Burn for how sports and capitalism work is just egregious.

I mean, fuck yes, he certainly hit one where it counted. That's also, like, one of the three he's scored in the last eighty years or whenever. Don't get me wrong I love Dan Burn but his attacking headers are literally an exercise in frustration. Except in cup finals.

No I mean having our most dangerous player on set pieces be Jamal Lascelles for the last eight years is fucking exhausting. Various center forwards, a variety of beanpoles and giants, and not one of them could put their head on a fucking cross to save their life.

Wouldn't mind winning this again

Away games against rural minnows often don't go as planned. You should see some of the shit that goes down in CONCACAF. For sure it's an easy win on paper, but once you get out onto the frozen steppe and start playing on a field full of potholes with a hill in one corner and a referee who costs $75 to bribe it becomes a whole different picture.

I'm still secretly hoping for relegation. They weren't that far away last season, soooo many lucky results deep in stoppage time, gifts from referees, etc. Anyway can you imagine the flurry of rule changes that would come around of they actually went down? Be worse than Leicester winning the league.

Why does anyone take player swap rumors seriously? It never, ever, ever happens.
-
Nah he should be playing here, I'd put him ahead of Willock tbh and I'm sure he'll be ahead of Ramsay during the 6-month introduction period.

Is this one happening or what?

This is the one I've been most invested in, really hope we get it done

More chances to draw a penalty

Desperate for content so just watched the 4-1 vs Chelsea in 2023. Gordon was an absolute nightmare in that game, drew a double yellow for his defender, goal and an assist I believe, and just generally ran the opposition ragged. We've got a lot going on at the moment, but I am fucking excited to see this guy back after a real summer break and ready to tear some shit up. Yes, I am four beers deep on a Monday night, why do you ask?

He was fantastic for us in the final stretch last season, scored a bag of really key goals.
-
Would be fantastic if this was all good to get Villa to not prepare for him
-
Three own goals and a drug problem apparently Nothing Eddie can't cure
-
Haha well that's not great! I am resolved to be positive though. I mean if he was known to be really good he wouldn't sign for us. We only got Tonali because he was about to be arrested

From the Milan poster we had in earlier it sounds like he's a good player that makes bad decisions. I think that's actually a good fit for is because discipline and decision making is one of the places where coaching has the most impact. It's hard to coach ability, but you can definitely drill a system into somebody and get them to the point where decisions are automatic. All that to say, sure, sounds okay. I mean we cannot go into the season with two fit centerbacks

Would love to get this guy in, 19 goals for Brentford is great, not worried about the age at all tbh, as long as we don't give him a mike Ashley six year extension

Fantastic

He always seemed to score against West Ham so maybe they're just trying to bring the goals against column down a couple notches

That's not really how sports works though. It's "what have you done for me lately" and if comes in and scores a goal we'll have forgotten all of this. Sure, you might remember and grumble, but all the club will see is a goal and hopefully 3 points, and at the end of the day that's what the fans want to see too. The only thing that matters at all when it comes to players in sports is production on the field. Even the off field asshole rapist shit only really matters to a team when it starts making them miss games, or disturbs the other players enough to negatively impact their performances, or disrupts ticket sales (which it almost never does). The world of sports has a rich history of felons and cunts winning championships and being celebrated until the very moment they stop winning. Then they get fucked, but who cares - is the new guy winning?
