I would like to see Newcastle do well for three reasons. It puts the NE on the national football map. It means Blunderland remain in their shadow, which must be so hard for them to accept, and they cannot boast about being the top NE team because the facts speak for themselves. Newcastle look a good bet for a trophy this season, which will push the knife even further into their envious chest. They don't like to be told but they are forever in the shadow of their bigger cousins from the Tyne. they’re a funny bunch, living in Newcastles shadow. They get good attendances. Mind their prices are much lower than ours and have been for years. They just have a bigger fanbase. Although historically their attendances are much more similar to ours than Newcastle. It's an inconvenient truth for them that they are looked upon by the rest of the country as a club that is similar in size to Boro and not Newcastle.

Yeah, there's a fair few more. I was having a bit of a chuckle reading it last night, ha.

I'm looking forward to the match tomorrow, and I'll be far more interested than if it was Sunderland vs Watford/Norwich etc. there's definitely an edge to the fixture. I was also browsing a Boro forum - plenty of 'in shadow' talk on this thread, which won't particularly please any lurking Wearsiders https://fmttmboro.com/index.php?threads/is-it-a-derby.41469/

  5. Just a needless comment though. We're obviously going to be signing players above our current station to get to the next level. Likewise when Man City signed Yaya and Silva - they'd never finished in the top 4 in recent memory, well before the PL era, in theory shouldn't have been attracting players of that calibre, but were clearly a team on the up and going places, so seemed normal.
  6. Frustrating, but take the point, unbeaten run and clean sheet, and hopefully have one or two additions in before we play West Ham in 2 weeks. Lack of goals in recent weeks is definitely a concern though.
  7. Definitely more of an even match since all the subs came on.
  8. Killing momentum. Although to be fair, we do our fair share of that.
  9. Yeah, I was a bit concerned when they seemingly took the lead, could have been 4 wins on the bounce. Whereas now, back bottom of the league and may have their minds on that. Villa's very good form continues, but they should be too far back to concern us.
  10. Shit, 2-2. Hopefully it stays like that, and no away winner.
  11. Wood's replacement equalises for Forest, VAR permitting.
  12. Leicester 1-1. Subject to VAR.
  13. Yeah, looking forward to it. Draw is absolutely the best result for us, but if there had to be a winner then I'm not really sure which I'd prefer. Top 4 wise, it would have to be a Chelsea win as Liverpool are currently much more favoured (than Chelsea) in terms of odds, so more of a rival in that sense, but then a(n unexpected) Chelsea win would be huge for them, they'd have B2B wins, pressure eased, new signings could click, we still have to go to Stamford Bridge etc. that gap should sharp change, so from a 'secure top 6' perspective, Chelsea winning wouldn't be great. I know that isn't the most optimistic of outlooks, and it would take a bad run of form in the second half of the season for us to finish 7th or lower, but I probably would still take 6th now if offered. Because Liverpool are more likely to win, so less shocks and disruption, I'm thinking draw-Liverpool-Chelsea in terms of preference, but definitely would like to see a draw.
  14. It was actually Burnley's first shot on target, but it felt like a barrage. Loads of corners and openings.
  15. They've kept a lot of clean sheets under Corberan have West Brom, but I'd be surprised if they did here (still 0-1 after 62 mins). Burnley cranking up the pressure, and think they'll get their reward soon.
  16. Getting a bit tasty this one. Burnley hit the woodwork a few times, both with a disallowed goal, and Burnley wanting a penalty just before.
  17. Burnley vs West Brom at 8pm on Sky tonight. Burnley won 7 in a row in the league, or 11 of their last 12. WBA won 4 in a row, or 9 of their last 10 (since a certain manager left), so both in very good form. It's really hard to see Burnley not finishing in the top 2 given they have a 16 point cushion on 3rd, but hopefully WBA can strengthen their play off position with a result. Drew 1-1 earlier in the season under Bruce, with WBA getting a 98th minute equaliser, also on Sky. Sheff Utd vs Hull on the budget red button service at 7.45pm, they are on 7 and 6 match unbeaten runs respectively.

  19. He's not the answer for where we are now, and especially longer term, and potentially looks a good deal for us (possibly both clubs really), but at the same time, while he wasn't here that long, I am a little bit sad. Like many, I watch far more NUFC YouTube content these days, and it will seem strange all those 'Toon in training', match cams, overseas trips videos etc. and him not being around anymore. Many fans will be far more engaged and invested in Newcastle United these past 15 months, and he's definitely played his part in that re-emergence. Hopefully we do get some sort of replacement in because despite what some say, he absolutely is 'better than nowt'.
