The moment that summed up Englands tournament for me came after the equaliser. We were enjoying periods of possession in the opposition half, we get a throw in. Walker throws it all the way back to Stones, who plays it back to Pickford, who boots it long for a Spain goal kick. After that it felt like it was all Spain for the last 15-20 minutes barring the chance from the corner. In comparison, Spain soaked up the pressure, went back to the keeper who played it to the half way line to the man in space. We have to get better at beating a press. The talent is undeniably there, the mindset isn’t.

Congrats to Spain and any Spaniards on here. Played a great tournament. Can’t be as wasteful on the ball as we were. I can’t remember ever seeing an England side that can play on the deck from back to front like other nations do regularly. A vital component of our game that just isn’t there.

In this set up, Trippier is well covered defensively with Rice, we really need that genuine attacking play from a true LB. Foden tracking back isn’t as necessary with Southgate’s two holding midfielders.

Yeah, and it’ll be an issue tonight when the full back pushing up is more likely to pass back to the halfway line then take it to the byline. An out and out left back in the side and Foden can take up some handy positions in the box.
