Exactly. To a degree, I can understand fair market value kicking in, if a company was prepared to throw crazy money at a club for the sponsorship, like stupid figures. However on the flipside, to change it deal to deal, just because you have an average/bad season (or two, in spurs case) is bit dodgy. So Sela or an alternative new sponsor couldn't give us the same £25m deal again, just because we finished 12th last season?

He's gone, and the deal seems to have been amicable, and the best for all involved, but there'll always be a bit of me that thinks he got spooked by Ekitike's injury putting him out of the WC. Gordon played at Palace the weekend before that, then he seemingly picked up the injury on the Wednesday in training (the day after Ekitikes injury against PSG in the CL), then missed the next two matches (Bournemouth H, Arsenal A), then returned as an unused sub in every remaining match. Whether scared about missing out on the WC, or a move in the summer, it does appear that for one reason or another, he may have downed tools and/or may have half arsed any appearances if he was subbed on.. But the club may have been considering getting rid this summer anyway, so ultimately, its all worked out.... to a degree.

I think after last summer and the Isak saga, maybe there was a conceous effort to show its an exception for players to leave here on bad terms.

Have read other comments, but personally think its around the right money for him, especially if the add-ons are easily achievable. Lad at work reckons there's a sell-on clause (for us) in the deal too, but not seen that myself. As for the player, will admit, wasn't a fan of him when we signed him, but that first full season, he put in some good performances, along with last season on our way to the Carabao Cup final. Ultimately though, his overall time will probably go down as slightly above average, but that's it. Indifferent form, seeming to pick and choose his matches, and not great output when you take away the pens this season, and I think this is a good deal for both us and him. Good luck to him in the future.

Still don't like how clubs can seemingly agree terms with a player before a fee with his club. So if they dig in and refuse to meet our valuation, we potentially have a stroppy scouser on our hands, with a history of acting up to force a move. But the window doesn't open till 15th June, so I assume deals can be agreed ahead of the WC start (11th June) for players participating, but not formally signed off/confirmed till it opens?
