I used to be one of his biggest critics when he was in midfield but I always accepted he had played a few very good games there. West Ham in the game Jonas scored to keep us up springs to mind. Most of the time he was barely better than Colback there though. Exactly. We haven't won a domestic trophy for over 60 years. We haven't won a league title in almost 90 years, yet here we are playing in the 2nd tier of English football and constantly selling out a 52,000 stadium every week. Based on those facts I've mentioned, I'm fairly sure there's not a club in World football that could manage that. If we didnt have the bounce of Rafa, do you guys think we will be selling out in the Championship? If another club akin to Everton were to have the exact same bounce, you honestly think that they wouldnt have a similar uptake? The thing that pisses me off the most in this conversation, is that you guys are acting like its fact, when it most certainly is not. History shows we have a bigger support than Everton. That is despite a lot of our history being in the 2nd division whilst they've been a top flight club for something like 100 consecutive seasons. Certainly more than any other club in the country. Everton have to compete with one of the biggest clubs in the world in a city that is less than double the size of Newcastle

The reason he is going to Preston anyway is that he is coming from the League of Ireland and it's a risk coming from there to a much more competitive league. He's proven in the Europa League he can do well at a higher level though. No guarantees that he will be brilliant or anything but to say that him going to Preston is proof that he isn't good enough is ridiculous

When you're on an 8 month contract earning probably £500 a week I think you probably take the first option that arises to go to a club where you will be paid a much higher salary

He's never shown that over a full season or even half a season though has he? I dunno, he did play well in periods though and got into the England side where he was also good. He turned to shit and carried that on to us - I thought he was absolutely shite last season, I'm not going to defend him for it. Just think it's pretty clear he has a lot of actual talent and his ability to spot a pass is top drawer. Watching the link up between him and Gayle this season is lush at times. You'll often see Gayle just peel away from the defence expecting Shelvey to find him. He does have loads of ability on the ball, aye and he's probably the best player in the championship. We'll just have to wait and see how he does next season I suppose
