I like Anita but he's wasted in our system. I think he is very composed on the ball (usually), moves it around really well and is quite clearly our most technically gifted central midfielder. But when your gameplan is mostly to have defenders launching long balls forward, bypassing the midfield completely then what's the use of a player like Vurn? He's never gonna pop up with goals and assists given the role and how deep he plays and because of his physical limitations he's not gonna offer as much defensively as the other players who start ahead of him. In a different system with a different style of football he'd be a key player for us.

Shipping Yanga out really was a baffling decision. Regardless of how highly you rate him, he was still one of only four senior CBs at the club. And on a loan where we're paying most of his wages no less. Madness.

Didn't Carr want to leave when Kinnear was hired and Ashley convinced him to stay? Not surprising if true. Carr goes and finds him these players we can get relatively cheap who will keep us in the league and then one or two can be sold on a few years later for a tidy profit.

He'll be back if Pardew goes, I'm sure of it. Whoever comes in to replace him will get an instant rise in popularity amongst (most) of the fans by bringing him back. And I think it's clear he wants to play for the club.

Such a bizarre argument. By that logic he can literally never be held accountable for results. If he's unable to work to a reasonable standard under a system that isn't going away, that's more reason to get rid rather than keep. People in England really struggle with the idea of a Director of Football system despite it being the norm, even at some English clubs. Personally I prefer the manager to have a lot more say but not if he's Alan Pardew. Thought the exact same thing when I read it. It's like, ok, when does it become acceptable to start criticizing him then? How many more bad results, how much worse does it have to get before we can say maybe he just isn't good enough? As you say, it absolves him of any blame and essentially gives him the best job in the world because he can never be held accountable.

Yeah that Rob Stewart guy wrote an article on FourFourTwo yesterday saying we shouldn't sack him. His defense was basically that Pardew has no say over the players coming in to the club and that this isn't "his team". Pretty much blames Ashley and Graham Carr for our predicament.
