So we should increase corporate tax across the board or just on football clubs? if it’s an issue of taxation I’d like to see us go after those billionaires or those Amazon’s who don’t pay a dime. Footballers already pay massive amounts of tax (rightfully so).

They see the high wages to turnover ratios and think salary cap is the answer. The actual answer is owners taking responsibility for the money they spend on the business. as said earlier, the classification of football clubs is partly at fault here as fans feel they are part of the community where as the owners see them as another asset in the portfolio.
-
Hr departments would represent the clubs interests no? The role of an agent is to represent a players interests.
-
Salary cap so billionaires become even richer?
-
I don’t understand the agent complaints to be honest. It’s consensual from both players and clubs. After all, the players are the clients and the role to look out for the players interests.

Decide what a football club should be legally. If it’s to continue as a business then let it operate as one. If it’s to be some form of special classification then clear rules regarding ownership and participation should be agreed and implemented.

Billionaire owners absolutely can’t wait to impose this. I don’t think you will have to wait long.
-
So the premier league want to destroy Scottish football in the same way the ESL wanted to European football lol.
-
That isn’t the desire though If they could cut agents out believe me they would. They know that without decision making power they are extremely limited in the bullshit which they can implement. I’m so glad this blew up, it makes it extremely difficult for them to try and pull this shit again. the surprising thing to me is how badly they handled it. They didn’t try and being anyone with them they just gave everyone the finger.

Ugh, not to defend these assholes but cutting costs isn’t very easy. In order to maintain the status they have to attract the best players. This is what actual competition looks like. (Inflated numbers aside). To sound like a broken record, these clubs are businesses, nothing more and nothing less.
-
Football clubs are businesses first and foremost. since when do employees get kept in the loop with regards to executive decision making? I understand salaries are huge for both managers and players but this is a function of the market and the level of competition. Please don’t feel fooled the players and managers are disposable employees.
-
You know it’s bad when you come of it looking more spineless than the UK Govt.
-
Another thing about US sports is they actually have a balancing mechanism which is the draft which helps attempt to keep things competitive.
-
I think the key point is the difference in view point. The owners see the clubs as a business and the fans as customers to be milked. the fans see themselves as custodians who’s job it is to protect the traditions and history. it’s yet another battle field between principles and laws. The fans have the high ground but the owners are protected by said laws.
-
The model was based up on them staying in the domestic leagues. They basically want a more generous champions league which they can be in for eternity.
-
Some people don’t care about sustainability they just want to watch the game and at it’s basic level this super league bullshit is very lucrative to those “founders”. If they aren’t opposed they will hoard all the best players something most fans of these clubs won’t object too once the dust has settled. source: Boris Johnson’s approval rating after the death of over 100k people and rampant corruption

The fact they have to target players who have zero say in this tells me how weak the legal case against this is. A lot of mileage in this shitshow.
-
As expected. They have them all by the balls. this throws the European leagues into absolute chaos , if they can’t be kicked out of the premier league im assuming they can also block any attempt to curtail their he power they have
-
I think the point is, it’s greed at play here and that isn’t draped in any particular flag.
-
The American blaming is so cringe.
-
Oh wow, I didn’t realise. that makes a lot of sense for them.
-
I don’t think it does. But that’s one of the interesting elements of this for me. how will they handle the tv rights? I wonder if they cut out the tv companies and go direct to consumer streaming.
-
Please don’t compare a club which actually tries with ourselves.
-
Lol, not even close.
