Newcastle United vs. Liverpool: 27/08/23 @ 16:30 (Sky Sports)

Just like last week everyone's confidence is making me nervous -
Me and my brother have both been to three games but it didn't register his name for one of the games as I bought them through the linked tickets for one game. So I'm in tier 3 and he's in tier 4. Bit shit but it is what it is. I've seen stated that if you're in tier 1 and you have friends in tier 3 you have to wait etc. Has it been confirmed if I can apply in the ballot at period 4 if I'm in 3 so we can apply to sit together? A lot of the information on the website is quite vague.

Financial fair play should consist of all clubs across the European top leagues being allowed to spend a fixed amount on transfers and a fixed amount on wages each year. It’s the only fair way in my eyes. Stronger checks to ensure clubs aren’t fucked over like Burnley with takeovers using the clubs own money.

Think he’s harmless just doing something he enjoys. If you don’t like it don’t watch. I think it’s poor some of the stick he gets borderline bullying some of it.

Are we basically mint now?

Being realistic when was the last time we won three premier league games in a row? I’d happily take a draw against villa now. They looked deadly on the counter last night. There defence can still be getting at however. West Ham I’d put down as a defeat they’re shit hot this season. Then a win and a draw either way from Brentford and Brighton should still see us outside of the bottom three. Anything else is a bonus.

The not being allowed to play new signings I’d a load of bollocks. What if the shoe was on the other foot and we’d sold a star player or two in Jan? We couldn’t exactly ask for them back to play in the rearranged fixture. Are we also supposed to pick from a depleted squad if new signings aren’t allowed? Would hardly seem fair.

I don’t think people realise when it comes to transfers at a club of our size it’s out of our hands sometimes. Players and agents will hold out to see if a better offer/team comes in. They won’t want to jump straight at the first option of a club in the relegation zone not in the opening few days.

Yedlin made a career out of it

I don’t understand people turning there nose up at Trippier. First of all he brings experience which we need desperately in my opinion. This team doesn’t know how to win games at the moment and struggles to hold on to a lead. Our defence is an utter shambles and your only as good as your weakest link. I appreciate we aren’t going to buy a whole new defence in January but this would be a great start in rebuilding it. If what were told is true about having vast resources available to improve this squad then there isn’t a single player in this team that isn’t replaceable. Some people may argue Wilson, ASM etc. However you can’t rely on Wilson’s fitness and ASM is wildly inconsistent and still has a lot to work on in his end product in my opinion. We can’t afford to be turning our noses up at players. In an ideal world we’d have had time to plan and get the correct building blocks in place from the beginning but the reality is we’re in a relegation scrap and we need to keep our heads above water.

Worrying thing is there maybe players who have also Tested positive that they haven’t revealed yet due to not wanting to give a starting 11 away.

I’d like to see us enquire about Barkley and play him in midfield 3 as a traditional number 8. Think we could get him on loan with an option to buy as he’s got to be buried in Chelsea’s bloated squad now. Think he’d give us something we haven’t got in the middle of the park. He wants to be on the ball has drive and power and can pick a pass and has a decent shot on him. He hasn’t been great at chelsea but he’s in and out the team a lot. A good run of games might just bring that form back he had at Everton. If we had someone who could play a deep lying role who could pick the ball off the CB’s and look to get us playing and help dictate tempo it would totally transform our team I believe we can start controlling games rather than just sitting in. Hayden Barkley New DM I think Matty could do that role well eventually but would need coaching something he’s not going to get currently.

You know what would be sweet to see with this formation? Merino in the Shelvey role. Or even Longstaff when he first came in to the squad. Even when (mildly) defending Shelvey you can't escape that he's a statue. If he moved any slower he'd be bronze and have bird shit all over his head! A decent coach would be grooming young Matty for this role. We’d need midfielders in front of him that want to find space and give him options tho. I find Hayden just wants to play it safe a lot like Colback used to get it end give it back to a CB or sideways to a FB. Sean’s gone off the boil and looks like he can’t keep up with pace of the game at times. Haven’t seen enough of Hendrick yet to comment but hopefully he’ll offer something different. I felt we badly needed midfielders as much as we needed a striker this summmer.

I just don’t see a role or a system we could play here where he would fit in.
-
Thought he looked extremely poor again last night. I think a loan move would be the best option. Dipping in and out of the team now and then isn’t going to get him out of this slump. Get him playing regularly in the championship then reassess at the end of the season. I’d rather see Matty get his opportunity when he’s fit.

People are vastly over rating our CB’s. It’s one thing sitting deep in a back 5 with a bank of 4 in front of you but it’s a different game when we’re gonna be pushed up the pitch trying to press teams.

Didn't get a sniff all game. He definitely needs support up top.
