I'm Swedish too and I can't understand wanting your country to lose and not playing in the WC because of one player. Amazing game yesteday, celebrated like mad with my son. Potter has done a great job in a short time with this team in terms of getting the team together, making the players believe and also coming up with a way to get results. Obviously they have a lot of work to do still and the WC might come to soon. But there's some real talent in the squad and the way they underachieved in the qualification was remarkable, truly remarkable. JDT is a clown.

This. I'm not even British but do I care about the derby? Yes, I do, because I've been a fan for 20+ years and it's a big part of this football club. There are certain things that are important for this particular club, that's a big part of being a supporter. Do I think the derbies should determine the future of the manager? Fuck no. Local identity and historic rivalries, just a couple more things sacrified on the altar of modern football.

There are a lot of things telling my gut that this WC is wrong, grim etc. But it's hardly the first time; the last one in Qatar, Russia before that, and if you go further back in time, Argentina 1978 under the junta, fascist Italy hosting in 1934 and so on. It's different when you have football mad kids as well, you want them to be able to absorb the WC like you did as a kid. Just my 2p of course.
