I agree with earlier points, that his presence, or his pesky, pestering, pressing, pernickety, pulsating, 'IN YER FACE, presence... has been the main benefit.
Not sure that Vurn's 'height/physicality' is an issue really. Think Dennis Wise, love him or hate him...nah, actaully forget the first bit... please just hate him (incidentally great regret in life is that I didn't catch Wise when I invaded the pitch after he chased Mirandinha--Mira had just tried to kick Dave Beasant at the final whistle, in a cup game I think [those were the days...]) or a more palatable example, David MacCreery; neither were 'big' but both could 'boss'.
Seems to me that it's always tempting to attribute simple solutions to complex problems. Getting the right (enough...) collection of players, playing in the right (enough...) system, motivated in the right way, to compete on one of the biggest stages in world sport isn't simple. Throw in all the political fall-out from Cashley, and the understandably short 'despondency-fuse' we all have after last season(s), and the problem faced is an impressively wicked layer cake of sh*t. I believe that we have a better manager and back room staff than we have had recently. I believe they have a viable 'philosophy'. I hope they have the balls to hold the line, I also hope the players and us fans follow suit.
Our only attacking threat Janmaat further up the pitch?
Isn't Janmaat out through sickness?
I reckon he's as sick as a Nun's " noo-noo": sick of playing with a bunch feckless wonders.
