I don't think it comes down to our owners ambition or what they want. The FFP situation just makes it really tricky. Ignoring Brighton and Villa for now we are competing against 6 clubs who can outspend us in terms of fees and wages for players. Last season we overachieved and pushed our squad to its absolute limit. You can't just bring in a couple of extra players and expect to 'progress' against the sides above and around you when they are improving their squads even further. It could end up being an even bigger challenge to finish top 6 this season than it was top 4 last. So I hope the majority of fans aren't daft enough to use last season as a yardstick of what constitutes a good season this year.

I think we need a FFP sticky post somewhere. For selling players the profit is recorded in one sum for that year regardless of when you get paid. For buying players the fee is spread out over the number of years of the contract regardless of when you pay the fee. If we gave Milan nowt upfront or the full £50m for Tonali it's still recorded as £10m over 5 years for example.

It's a tough start to the season for our midfield like with Villa, City and Liverpool first 3 who all play with a box midfield now and have an extra man in there. Could see us getting totally overran with Anderson at RCM. He has been our best midfielder preseason though so would be harsh to just leave him out.

Quite happy to see Man U spend £200m on Hojlund, Mount and Onana. Could all be decent signings but I'd be more concerned if they splashed out on Kane.

Yeah we are opposite to City really. They can hold the ball so well and conserve so much energy in games. They mentally and physically tire out the opposition. You'll rarely even see Rodri get out of walking pace. Our CMs are charging around like mad all game.

Top 8 looks very strong. The rest of the league is shaping up to be the poorest it's been for a while though. We should hopefully convert some of those annoying draws into wins this year but will lose a few more too. No idea where that will have us end up.
