Very disappointed if Gordon is to be our only signing. Going into the window, it seemed that a CM would be a priority, and that doesn’t seem like it will be resolved. Gordon doesn’t possess the leap in quality that I’d be expecting for the outlay.
-
Bournemouth splashing the cash this window. Remains to be seen if it’ll work out of course, but you’d be nervous if you’re a relegation rival.
-
Unless we’re offering a particularly low fee, not really sure why Everton aren’t just taking the money and moving on. He hasn’t really been contributing to the team in recent weeks anyway. They’ll be able to find replacement(s) without too much difficulty.
-
I rate Willock higher than Gallagher honestly, both great talents nonetheless.
-
Another massive sliding-doors moment for them, they could have probably got Gallagher and Broja sent the other way too.
-
Some of the personal attacks on Gordon seem a little much, there’s no indication he’s a problem away from the pitch.

Southampton 0-1 Newcastle United (24/01/2023)

Either we get to the final or I have a mental breakdown and never leave the house again. No pressure. -
Nixon is another useless source who never gets anything right.
-
Might come across a bit harsh, but I feel like the regional journalists who cover Newcastle are largely poor when it comes to any sort of transfer news. They don’t really tend to have first sight on any developing or breaking story. In contrast, you’ve obviously got Ornstein who is very good at breaking news on transfers involving Arsenal / other London-based teams. John Percy covering the Midlands, Matt Law on Chelsea, Phil Hay for Leeds, James Pearce at Liverpool etc. Don’t really think our lot offer much insight, or have any sources at the club to offer insight into recruitment. Which is probably a good thing for the club really, not so great for fans who would like updates on activity.

Think we need to freshen up the attack. A couple players in this window is vital, team needs bit of a jolt. Still, not a bad point. -
We’re going to get stung on price for Gordon, he’s massively overvalued against his current level. For that type of money, I’d want to see a much higher level of demonstrable quality injected into the team.
-
Think the Gordon deal might actually happen, especially if they’re interested in Fraser.
-
I can clearly see from this move that we’re prioritising Premier League experience, as all the local journalists have continually written about.

Ings is a really good signing for West Ham.

Chris Wood (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

To be honest, I really liked him when he was at Leeds and Burnley, he seemed such a physical presence and scored all kinds of goals. For whatever reason that player wasn’t the one we got here. -
Yeah I know we can only properly judge at the end of the window and will likely provoke claims of entitlement, but feeling a bit frustrated at our lack of activity this window so far.
-
A loan does nothing for us, unless it’s a substantial fee, which I very much doubt is being offered.
-
Diaby is a better player than Mudryk I think.
-
I wouldn’t mind McTominay, but he’s just not the type of midfielder we need ultimately. I’d be so surprised if Gallagher, Ziyech or Loftus-Cheek ended up here, can’t see it at all.
-
Gallagher would be fantastic under Howe. Not sure on Loftus-Cheek, doesn’t seem to have much fight in his game.
-
Not doubting his talent, but signing an 18 year-old who has only played 10 league games, to deputise for Trippier seems a bit risky. Manquillo has had bad games, but think he’s largely solid when called upon. I’d prefer if Fresneda was allowed to develop at Valladolid until the end of the season and Manquillo could then move on.

Elliot Anderson (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

I don’t think he’s anywhere near ready to contribute in a Premier League team. It’s almost unfair to him to have that expectation after only playing 6 months of competitive football at League Two level. He really should be out on loan getting more experience and I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t head out this window.
