Group D (Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Scotland)
TheInfiniteOdyssey replied to Big River's topic in Football
I see what you're saying, but moment-to-moment during that game, we were so flat and laborious both in attack and defense and that was present from the first minute. So, it's not surprising whatsoever that the crowd eventually lost patience and the blame for that primarily resides with the management's approach to the game. Mings' interview afterwards also suggested the players just weren't really that motivated and if that's an issue facing Scotland for the first time in how many years in a major competition at Wembley, then that's very strange and suggests complacency in the set-up. -

Don't see any issue in the crowd making their displeasure known to the players and staff. They were utterly hopeless and didn't seem motivated to exert themselves on the game whatsoever. Observers may highlight the booing as illustrative of an 'English arrogance / entitlement' on behalf of the fanbase. From my perspective, that was actually demonstrated by the players and management last night, they turned up expecting a far easier game. -

He was hopeless, but the entire system we're playing at the moment seems to stifle any creativity and discourage attacking at pace. I would certainly argue that Kane needs to be dropped, but the bigger priority is retooling how we're going to play with this squad of players. -

Southgate really is so Bruce-esque in his press conferences "Still working out the patterns in attack"- How long have you been in charge for now, four years? Then blaming the lack of tempo on young players possibly being overawed at the occasion. Yeah not like many of them have been winning major honors this season in some of the biggest games, not the least the Champions League just a month or so back. He's such a twat, he'll play the exact same system next week, has no idea how to change it. -
Ramos is leaving Real Madrid

Not a great game to watch, but the result is what counts I suppose. Our attack was notably disjointed however and we were languid on the ball. We'll not get a positive result if we play that way against better sides, Croatia just don't have the legs anymore to really threaten. -

What are everyone else's opinions on Mings? Personally, don't see him as an international-standard player, never mind a starter. Could be in the minority however. -
I think Saliba is a really good talent but this isn't a priority position, especially with Lejeune returning. It would also rule out another loan for Willock in the summer or January if Arteta wants rid.

Strange as most reports stated that Norwich had rejected a £30m offer and were holding out for £35-40m Perhaps the sell-on clause is generous.
-
Looks a superb player.
-
If that list is true, then it appears there's no discernible strategy underpinning that club whatsoever.
-
I mean probably the most pertinent factor of why players favor a move to Premier League clubs of any standing, is that they're guaranteed to double, likely treble their existing wages.
-
Some very harsh opinions on Hayden here.
-
Looking at the two squads, I don't think there's a 14 point difference in quality between us and Leeds who are in 9th, bar superior coaching. However, we have finished this season strongly which is somewhat encouraging.

Newcastle United vs Sheffield United - 19/05/21 @ 1800 - Live on Sky

Perhaps better than attending the match and half-heartedly chanting for Ashley Out all game without realising the irony. -
With all the recent praise that has gone Bruce's way, you would have thought we would be top half of the league, or in some kind of respectable position. 16th, 1 point above 17th.
-
Not at all, there was a breakdown of the finances for all current Premier League sides with regards to infrastructure - stadium, facilities, training etc. Newcastle United under Ashley have spent £7m in total for the period 2010-2020.
-
Does anyone know if Bruce went after certain journalists when he was at Villa or anywhere else? He's so thin-skinned against Hope's criticism, it's actually pathetic I bet he's going to be talking about it all next season as well, if he's still in charge
-
Following on from Bruce's inspiring words, I'm going to manage my expectations for next season. Consequently, I'm going to expect 17th instead of 16th. Hope that's not going to be too difficult for him and we can support the team, not the regime.

El Chringuito's devastation whenever Real Madrid fail to win is one of the funniest things ever, so glad Florentino had his interview on there so I could become aware of this incredible, demented show.

Marca kicking off massively with this. As are El Chringuito (the TV station where Florentino embarked on his successful ESL press tour)
