Aye. They knew his importance so they just let him do what he wanted probably; jet off to France whenever he felt like it, not turn up or not try 100% in training or whatever. No wonder he liked Bruce so much imo. That's not me having a go at ASM btw, still absolutely adore the bloke, but going by most of his performances thus far this season and with a new manager coming in soon he needs a rocket up his backside.
-
Aye but he needs to start from a wide position so he creates space in the middle. When ASM is the one in the middle, who's he creating space for? Wilson? Ritchie and Manquillo? He's not going to hold the ball up as that's not his game.
-
Said in another post, playing him up front or through the middle is like playing with 10 men. He needs to be out wide where he'll drag 2 or 3 defenders out to him creating space for Wilson or a late runner in Willock. Palace was his worst performance since he's been at the club imo and he was nullfied on Saturday by having him through the middle. Someone needs to tell Jones that ASM is a winger and a very fucking good one at that.

Also bearing in mind that the 6pts came from an Everton side who couldn't stop losing to shit teams at Goodison and a Southampton side who in the game prior lost 9-0. Has it? Benitez managed when players were out, albeit very rarely were players out injured under him. Aye it is. When we went back to a back 5 at home to Spurs last season, we'd won 2 in 25 games playing 5 at the back. That was supplemented by Willock's ridiculous goalscoring run. Admittedly performances did improve although we did keep just the 1 clean sheet playing 5 defenders which was against bottom club Sheffield United. And yep.

I think the players just a need a boost of confidence. Both the fans and players have been used to the garbage that Bruce/Jones puts on in training, his comments in press conferences and putting the club and team down regularly. Bit of confidence and the nous to set the team up both in the right positions and correctly tactically might be all that's required. Fonseca would likely bring that. Also a big plus that he'd have 2 weeks in the break to get his ideas across and fitness levels up.

I'm trying to say that the split striker thing was shite. 6pts from 9 v Everton, Palace and Southampton is hardly cause for calling it to work more than it didn't given the 3pts from 18 after it. One player shouldn't be the reason of a success or downfall of a gameplan. Jones is seemingly part of the problem here given the persistence of what Bruce was doing before; 8 games where we won twice with his at-times-striker-less formation last season isn't cause for me to think otherwise.
-
Same, like. Seems really up for the job too. Just happy that we may finally have a manager who plays players in the correct positions.
-
I'd be happy with Fonseca. Be happy with almost any cunt at this stage.
-
Willock only played 1 game, his debut, in that system with Wilson. Wilson went off injured in the same game after 36 minutes, not seen until Burnley away. Wilson played just 3 games in that system, won 2 lost 1.
-
Certain defeat if Jones is in charge, which is looking all the more likely. Have a chance of a cliché manager bounce if someone is in for it, which I doubt.
-
The split striker shite we played caught Everton off guard but we then lost to Palace, beat Southampton after going down to 9 men and then failed to win until Burnley away 2 months later. It got found out and Bruce (and you've got to include Jones at this point) could not adapt to teams adapting to that new formation. We were at times playing games we had to win with no recognised striker on the pitch. Jones is just trying to shithouse points until the next manager comes in. And even that is failing. Playing ASM up front nullifies what he's good at so much that it's like playing with 10 men. Jones is continuing to do that. He's seemingly frozen out Fernández, continually playing Clark, Lascelles and Krafth ahead of Schär, playing Ritchie at wing back, Fraser in centre midfield. Nah. Jones can fuck off too tbh. Absolutely desperate for a new manager now, like.
-
Would take any of them aside from Lampard and Martinez. People can call it bedwetting if they want but we need a new manager in as soon as humanely possible. We're running out of games and if Jones is still in charge for Brighton we'll lose that too, more players out of position, underperformers consistently picked, same shite Brucetastic tactics and subs. We may get the cliché that is the new manager bounce if one is appointed. Who knows? The side seems to be getting worse by the game, more points adrift by the week, games running out with that aids run in December coming up. Hey ho. It may well be sorted in the upcoming break but the performances v Palace and on Saturday has made me think we're almost certain to go down and the more certain we'll be the longer we take.

Wasn't exactly sold on Emery a few weeks ago but I'd tear your arm off for him now. Get him in. Good ebening.
-
Drop Longstaff, move Almirón to the 10 and play Murphy on the right, or give Fraser a shot in his actual position.
-
Another game tossed off then. 11 games without a win here we come. Fuck off.
-
Righto. We need a new manager and need one now. Our games up to Burnley could see some points but we're only getting them if Jones isn't the one picking the team and playing players out of position and benching our best options.
-
7 or 8. A new manager is more important than January. But I assume the owners will just do some more interviews and make more shortlists.
-
We need a new manager for Brighton. This guy in the dugout is just like Bruce never left.
-
We've just seen the result of 4 years of neglect since we were promoted. A lot of players aren't good enough, but we're poorly coached too. Benitez had us well coached and we reaped the benefits. Jones isn't the answer. We need a new manager for Brighton to even stand a chance of getting a positive result. Fuck off making shortlists and doing interviews. Getting it done or we're increasing the chances of us going down by the day.
-
We need a new manager. Now. The owners can fuck off doing more interviews and making more shortlists. Get it done. Jones is just a Bruce clone, that today was fucking embarrassing.
-
ASM needs to be out wide, he'll be far more effective v Alonso or Chilwell than Thiago Silva and Rüdiger.
-
Our away form was poor, and if we hadn't have lost to Man Utd at home we win that league. Can't blame Asprilla for that imo.
-
0-0.

Also his 1 good season there in 2013-14, he went to Everton replacing Moyes. Martinez benefitted from defensive tendencies instilled by Moyes but after those wore off the following season, Everton were a shambles defensively in his last 2 seasons. A bit like Bruce benefitting from Benitez' defensive organisation in 2019-20 pre COVID. That's now wore off. Same sort of thing. He's miles ahead of Bruce, but it would be even more underwhelming than someone like Howe imo. Should stay well clear.
