  1. Regarding the marginal offside, we didn't get a stonewall pen at Villa Park because of this; What goes around comes around.
  2. With ASM you take the rough with the smooth. Yesterday was an awful game as a spectacle, very stop start due to awful refereeing and both defences were largely sound. That means that attacking players have quiet games, ASM, Coutinho, Bailey when he came on, were all poor. But in ASM's case he'll always have games like that but you have to take that on the chin as he'll pop up with a performance like he put in against Everton or a brilliant individual goal. Can't expect him to be 100% on it every game because that's who he is.
  3. Darn shame. Hopefully Manquillo is okay, him and Targett as full backs is more than adequate.
  4. Great listen, those first 12 minutes or so. Think he's been a bit wide of the mark when it comes to Benitez' time here but in regards to us in general he only ever speaks incredibly highly of us.
  5. Reading this post of mine back has brought about bafflement and borderline nausea tbh. I was still quite invested tbh even from afar at uni in 2019-20 under Bruce but COVID era football behind closed doors was soulless, monotonous and plain boring to me. Over last season I only ever watched us, no top 6 games, no CL or EL games, nowt. Then the start of this season with Ashley and Bruce having us "ticking along" with the neglectful management of both cunts had me not looking forward to this season whatsoever. Personally remember how miserable the apathy made me, but I still followed every game, watched it, celebrated goals, all the stuff I suppose a normal football fan would do. But knowing that the bigger picture was largely pointless, it was just counting down the games, seasons, whatever until a takeover materialised. Now that we have that... I'm as invested as I've ever been. I'm paying out of my pocket as a 3rd year student to come back from Derby for every home game. I'm posting on here whenever I get the chance too, reading .com, the Athletic, looking at Twitter for news even when there is none, thinking of designs for Wor Flags amongst many. A huge fucking 1.

    Joelinton

He must be horrible to play against, constantly getting nicks and small touches which takes the ball off of your toe. Love him. His turnaround starting from Howe's first game in charge is no coincidence. So many of our players just needed a coach to recognise their strengths, weakness and to improve the latter and solidify the former.
  7. Pawson btw was absolutely shite. I thought McGinn was lucky to be on the pitch, he committed 2 stonewall yellow card offences in the first half and was only booked for 1 of them. Digne also should've been booked but HT was blown for when the ball went out during the phase of play he committed the offence. Stop-start feel to the game in the 2nd half which is probably why the game as a spectacle was fairly rank.
  8. You are. 9. I'd take a point, but our record down there is good. 3 points would be phenomenal.
  10. Dreadful game, amazing result. One of those 8 or 9 games a season where both teams are off it and 1 goal from a set piece or break will pinch it. We pinched it, just like we did at Leeds. Burn was outstanding and my MOTM. ASM was quiet but so were the likes of Coutinho, as aforementioned it was one of those dross games. Confident of staying up now. HTL.
  11. Last two times the club was largely fractured. Fractured for more or less the whole of 08-09, all of 15-16 bar the final 10 games. Our current fixtures up to the next international break are decent, plus we still have to play Everton, Norwich and Burnley to play again. Also, if we continue on Howe's current PPG rate, we'll finish on 36 points which may be enough.
  12. Currently I'd say Burnley are an 8, Watford a 6, Norwich a 5 and us below 5, below 3 or 4 if we win tomorrow.
  13. You think there's a 60% chance we'll go down?
  14. If Norwich get beat and we contrive to beat Villa tomorrow, I'll be very confident in staying up.
  15. No Beardsley in there shocking. Plus I'd perhaps go David Craig over Barton. Milburn and Shearer is tough to argue with, but Hughie Gallacher probably should have a chance of getting in there. I know football was utterly different in the 1920s but his scoring rate for us is an absolute joke: 143 goals in 174 appearances ffs. Also Supermac deserves a mention as he was class and my dad's first hero. Colin Veitch too and the defenders of his era such as Hudspeth, McCraken deserve a mention, they had to change the offside rule because they were so good at offside traps and keeping clean sheets because of how good they were. From the Guardian: Plus, was Albert even that good as a defender? People tend to opt for Woodgate or Coloccini.
  16. Proper cursed lineups this lad posts. Like the demons you see in the corner of your bedroom when you've got sleep paralysis.
  17. He plays an effective, if not glamorous, role in the side. He allows Willock, ASM and Fraser to get next to and beyond him and into the box. Which in turn allows more goal scoring opportunities for the team thus the chances we had second half at Leeds and on Tuesday night.
  18. The share issue in '91 was attempted for part fan ownership but also it was mainly to service the club's debts. McKeag et al though were still present at the club and the fans didn't trust him or the non-Magpie Group members of the board so hardly anyone bought any, hence why McKeag sold his stake to Hall during 1991-92. The failure of it wasn't necessarily Hall's fault but it was a blessing in disguise. Also am happy to be shown but I haven't seen him defend Ashley on the record. Either way Hall's legacy at NUFC is still all here to be seen and him selling to Ashley doesn't change that.
  19. Disagree with that, like. Without Hall there would've been no Keegan and/or likely no NUFC. Given that he launched a battle against McKeag and the previous board as far back as 1988, eventually took over after the failure of the share issue in 1991 with the debts and frosty relationship the club had with NCC due to the state of SJP post Taylor Report, to give Hall no credit for where the club went and where it is now is wide of the mark for me. Granted, he was a Thatcher supporting Tory and did sell the club to Ashley but his role in the club's history and his legacy are still there to be seen and can't be denied. Hall put the club on the map by fighting to democratise it, eventually taking over and appointing Keegan, reneging on his reluctance on the Kilcline deal to bring him back as he knew there they were the only two people who could save NUFC, as he said to Keegan on the phone.
  20. We've got 3 wins on the board and you more often than not need 9 or 10 for safety. Never this simple like but from our remaining games we should be looking to win; Villa (h) Brentford (a) Brighton (h) Palace (h) Leicester (h) Norwich (a) Burnley (a) I'd fancy us at home against most sides tbh, such as the games I've excluded against Wolves and Arsenal. West Ham we have a decent record away at and we played well against them on the opening day for ≥45 minutes but fell away after an hour due to a bollocks pen they got and the Bruce inspired lack of fitness.
