Essential signing or this season is gonna be a fucking horrible slog.
  11. There are some lovely bits in the city centre. But I ended up spending a fair bit of time there last month and I was never too far away from some unpleasantness Lowlights: spiced up man running down the pavement before crashing out and falling to the floor with his head over the kerb right by a tram stop - this was at Grand Central. Two people walking up to a wall by McDonalds - just up from the Bullring - and pissing all over it before having a very loud conversation about scoring some drugs and worrying about their probation meetings. Really unpleasant types blocking pavements walking into the centre along a road from Millennium Point, with loads of broken glass bottles about. I also find the area around the Bullring just a bit too busy - which isn't a major negative - just a personal dislike. Feels like you're easily harassed and didn't enjoy walking there with my kids. Obviously, Snow Hill, Brindley Place, around the library and museum and plenty of other bits are class. But my overall impression was of an unease that I was never that far away from it being uncomfortable. Haven't had that feeling when I've been around the main bits of say Manchester, Newcastle and the touristy bits of London. There will no doubt be similar areas in those cities, but I never get that uncertain feeling there quite like I did in Birmingham. Hanley (Stoke's main town) has really started to go that way too around the main shopping streets. Wasn't like that 5 or so years ago.
