    Joe Willock

The game suited him, and he delivered a superb performance. My opinion hasn't changed though, he ranges from 4/10s to 9/10s with not enough consistency. I want to see him prove me wrong and deliver a strong run between now and the end of the season. Reckon he'll be done with us if he can't.

Pope's first season with us was obscenely good We just didn't pass him the ball and when he got the ball, he booted it miles

Select View Complete Scouting Report and then you can filter by season.

You need to filter to this season and Pope actually drops off loads compared to last season, whilst Dubravka is doing much better. But Pope is still comfortably ahead on defensive actions outside the area. And Pope is still slightly ahead on crosses stopped, save percentage and the XG saved stat. So Dubravka doing better than his previous season and Pope has regressed, but is statistically still better outside his kicking. And that is with his errors and obvious drop-off.

Go back and read my comment in the thread from the first goal we conceded. Whilst you're at it, go and read my comments on Dubravka in recent weeks. Dubravka had a good run of games for us, but you cannot ignore that he faced so few shots in that run of games. He did well with what little he had to do though, and his kicking was obviously much better than Pope's. But he has severe limitations which haven't gone away. He doesn't command his box well - which I would bet was the reason Pope came back in today - and he does not sweep behind the defence to allow us to play further up the pitch. Pope makes the saves Dubravka does and then makes more saves he just isn't good enough to make. It is frustrating that Pope dropped a fucking shambolic clanger almost immediately today. But, outside his kicking, he was fine otherwise. If Pope drops more clangers like that in quick succession, then we can have this discussion. I'm glad Howe has got him back in goal for the rest of the season. I don't think he is the same standard of goalkeeper post injury, but he is still our best goalkeeper.

I don't see the need for your strawman here. Dubravka kicks better than Pope, yes. Pope's kicking has always been a weakness and he made two awful kicks today, maybe another that I'm missing. Pope also dropped a complete howler to let them score. But, Pope did everything else that was asked of him today and is a much better player than Dubravka. He is a much stronger shot stopper, he sweeps behind the defence better and is far more dominant on crosses. He is also a confident and calm head who communicates with clarity to the defence - you could see that in the game this afternoon. So I understand entirely why Howe has made the call to bring his number 1 back in and I don't want a kneejerk regression back to Dubravka. I want Pope in for the rest of the season and I want an upgrade in the summer. Dubravka is a less than ideal back-up, but clearly must have the right mentality to do that job for us and I imagine PSR also keeps him at the club.

He had a couple of bad kicks, yeah. But his kicking wasn't absolutely dreadful taken across the whole game. Outside of one or two bad kicks, the rest were absolutely fine.

Yeah, it was shambolic positioning. I reckon it is just rustiness. And usually the opponent doesn't nail it right in the opposite corner like that, so you get away with it. He was absolutely fine after that.
  9. He'd have England caps.
  10. If I were to guess, I'd say he is incredibly jealous and self-conscious about Isak banging in loads of goals this year, so he was just looking to score at every opportunity. Incredibly selfish play from someone who should know better.
  11. Would be good to have a proper discussion on our failings this season. To what extent it is Howe's game management or the players themselves. Probably just gonna be loads of factors coming together.
  12. Why are we playing on last three minutes?
  13. Tino was a yellow and this isn't. Aye
  14. Howe needs to get his shit together. Game management this season has been ropey.
  15. Jesus. They haven't even played well to get that goal.
