West Ham United 1 - 1 Newcastle United (19/02/2022)
Wolfcastle replied to Yorkie's topic in Football
Even if he didn't he seems like he's constantly striving to learn and improve himself, travelled and studied a lot during his time out apparently. Meanwhile Bruce goes on holdiay and watched cricket. -

Cant fault any of them. We know Krafth and Murphy are limited and out of their depth but gave what they had. Willcoks back and Fraser has been made useful. Were just names before. Top work Eddie and team. -

Very satisfied with that giving we were missing probably our three best players and what we were forced to play. Would definitely have taken a point and this was the least nervous I've been for a long time watching a game. Bruce's team with modest acquisitions of Wood, Targett and Burn. Also considering where these are in the league with that sterile atmosphere, feels like it wouldn't take much to get up their ourselves -
don't know where they get this reputation for having inferiority complexes and living in echo chambers from re the metro suspension: dillgaf: When was the last time there was any planned disruption, industrial action or otherwise when decapitators United were playing at home? ssr: It's uncanny how the roadworks on the A19 and Metro disruption perfectly syncs up with Sunderland home games. Almost like it's spitefully planned. safccfas: Wasn’t it made known on here after the A1231 and A19 both being closed on a match day that the person in charge of making these decisions was a NUFC season ticket holder?

Christ I think I've still got tickets for Platinum club beambacks in 1994 that cost more than that *yep "Sheffield Wed v Newcastle Utd -Sat 05 March 1994 Kick Off 3pm Admit to platinum concourse price £10.00"
-
that's arguably their true natural size and pretty much how I see them, why their expecations outweigh reality and maybe the source of many of their problems. 40,000 people paying for the cheapest season tickets in the league, supplemented by various freebies should not be competitive with a 40,000 club charging standard PL prices.

Its not the people living there but the historic buildings. Rebuild in Leazes park has been mooted before. Certainly preferable to anywhere else for me. Extension very tricky but dearly hope so.

Don't want to be a snob but I couldn't be doing with the conference league. Under Ashley they'd be the only games that interested me but they'd be a pain in the erse now. (still probably go mind, different teams and all that)

They managed to ignore the Toon 2008 placards we held up there for the capital of culture bid. Just caught a second or two behind Sky advertising the bushido wrestling that night or whatever -
Even I was surprised at how bad that was.

That's basically every season since I can remember. Even at Roker Park our school (50/50 area) got free tickets, you can imagine that was the same for a lot of schools.

Apart from similarly getting far bigger gates than we've a right to and more than anybody but Man United would get in the same situation, they're not similar at all for me. historical average attendances is Newcastle 95 Sunderland 21 and the gap was huge many a time.
-
I don't know how they keep finding people to bail them out and subsidise them mind - Drumaville, Short and now KLD. I mean you'd think they'd look at how much money the previous people lost to get nowhere and the thanks they got for it and go somewhere else instead, this one's been tried time and again, difference with us is the one time it was tried it absolutely boomed, so you can see the obvious attraction. Its a bit of a con cos they'll say they can (albeit very rarely) get X amount in gates - but wasn't it the case that their tickets are so cheap they actually make less than Norwich.
-
To be fair a lot of those people, especially kids, that missed out during the Keegan era weren't interested in going before Keegan. So I'd say we gained rather than lost people even if they couldn't often get in.

West Ham United vs. Newcastle United: 19/02/2022 @ 12.30pm (BT)

Cant look beyond a point with this one, would feel a bit too greedy to do so, besides the better opposition and injuries. It keeps momentum going. Hating these chip p*ssing on, fly in the ointment injuries. -
Eddie Howe - Nominated for Manager of the Season
Wolfcastle replied to InspectorCoarse's topic in Football
Went from 22nd and 3 wins in 4 months and 1 win in 13 to winning 7 in less than three months, winning 5 of our next 9 From when Keegan arrived we had the same record as Leeds who won the league. Better record than Blackburn under Dalglish with a blank cheque book who finished 6th, Cambridge 5th and better than Manchester United's who were runners up. Was pretty similar to Rafa coming in for me. the nerves and All that was going to stop either one of them keeping us up was running out of games. -
I felt a tinge of coldnes when KK talked about needing to move to a new stadium at the end of 95/96 and when the plans came out but find it harder now. SJP as was then had only been complete a year prior and only the East Stand was recognisable from 10years earlier. The distinctive nature of the grounds symetrics and steepness now will be a huge wrench. I actually hope they would replicate that in a new stadium rather than samey feel of most of the other ones. Is another tier on the Milburn out? Think that plus a Gallowgate extension, East Stand remodel and maybe have the East Stand/Leazes corner brought up to Leazes height could be in the region of 65k+.
-
Just forgetting their favourite ever things - 6 in a row, us getting relegted, finishing ahead of us and being competitive for the only times bar 99-01 since 1992 - all delivered by Ashley (what a complete coincidence), to promote Ashley as a potential new owner?! We were wrong to be upset by all that and as he was doing a good job all along, that ought to mean they were wrong to be so happy about things, yet wont. Could they be more mackem?!
-
You just move on from it though, we did the last two times we were very good. Teams that are competing with you for trophies, champions league places and power take over and arguably its more intense. Didn't miss them at all 92-99 or 01-04 and it was anything but boring. They were like what what Man City were to Man United pre Sheik Mansour to us 96/97 01/02 & 02/03 a local dispute of a game but not the biggest The curse of being a club going somewhere I guess.
-
This takeover with its resources is the only one where they can find a way of extending SJP. I hope they do but can only envisage incremental increases (remodel the East Stand, tier + on the Gallowgate) that probably won't be enough. Who even knows what would be enough anymore. Think were looking past 60k now. I'd want the stadium to be nowhere near the rest of the set up. Keep a "Saturday" only feel about it and city centre *I'd love the Gallowgate to match the Leazes but with an the extra capacity of an arch on top, with a green light on the front of the roof, replicating the tyne bridge.

Ashley only goes where Ashley can make money. They're a loss making operation that at best made far less than us. Asset stripping is the only way he could ever make money there. I imagine at best they'd only get to the level we were at when Ashley was forced out. Lad on the radio crediting Blackpool for their boycott. There was a more local club that did that but as angry and upset and desperate as they are they still have the facilities to refuse to give NUFC credit.
-
That's it. Many are giving him benefit of the doubt as a new man in right now but the way they're describing how they played is how Bruce would play after 2games or 2years, its his style.
