From everything I'm reading the club seem deathly afraid of taking even minor risks so they're ending up with players who quite frankly have very limited ceilings. If the plan is to break into the top 4 consistently, I don't see how you achieve that with low ceiling, relatively high floor signings. Could be wrong of course because it's just media talk but that's the vibe I get.

Based on what I've read, I get the impression that the environment at Chelsea isn't actually conducive to a positive environment in general tbh.

I have no idea, I haven't watched or paid attention to anything for years until this summer, i'm just kinda putting the pieces together regarding the reaction and why people are not particularly positive. Getting a genuine 4th midfielder would be expensive I would imagine so you're not wrong there.

I think the reaction is because most were expecting a legitimate 4th midfielder who can push the first 3. From what I understand he isn't that? considering that the reaction is understandable, it doesn't seem like anyone is saying he's bad.

I think sometimes even if the player is flawed, if they have something you sorely need (In this case pace) It can end up being a net positive to the team overall. I know nothing about the lad but what i've read today I kinda get it. With the more high profile players knocking the club back it might be something they will need to consider.

Based on everything I've read this summer, I don't think he'll need to be a leader. So maybe some of his flaws can be hidden somewhat. I guess that would explain why the club have looked at him several times before.

In general strikers having elite returns at 22 is very rare, obviously some exceptions but it doesn't happen very often. Having nearly 40 goals the past two seasons at 22 is very, very good IMO. I can see why the sort of money being talked about for him is happening.

I don't think getting a defender and midfielder before the season is absolutely paramount. Sorting out the striker situation is, but you can probably get away with being more relaxed about the midfielder and defender situation as long as it's sorted before September.
