Nonsense, Rafa got leeway because he'd been a very successful manager for years, Steve Bruce got a hard time straight away because we had 20 years of watching him being a shit football manager. Eddie Howe will get a good chance because we saw what he achieved with Bournemouth and what he's trying to do here. Deliberately ignoring the wider context and keeping the blinkers only on their time at Newcastle is deliberate ignorance surely.

Judging by the Reddit comments, Carlos is possibly the more exciting signing between him and Botman. A lot on there seem to think that Botman really, really struggles if he's playing in a defence that plays a high line (something I'd expect us to do in the future) and I've seen a couple of comments saying Carlos has been one of the best defenders in La Liga this season.

Feel sorry for any fans that end up with him owning their club, including those who arrogantly think we don't know what we're talking about despite the 14 years experience of what he's like. I said when he left, I wouldn't wish him on any set of fans including the mackems. At the end of the day we all love football and for anyone who loves football and their club, he's the enemy. The only good situation is one where he's not involved in football whatsoever.

Wonder if it's some sort of pressure tactic to try and make the clubs more eager to accept a bid in case the other one does first.

Anyone that can look at the signing of Trippier for £12m and try and claim it's a bad signing with a straight face has sacrificed the perception of their sanity for pride and I imagine it'll only get worse.

Don't think he's in the police, think that was just a story people came up with for why he stopped doing it when it was just because he didn't want the attention he was getting, could be wrong like. I knocked about with him at college at the time he was doing it, really canny, very talented kid.

He definitely looks smug but doesn't sound it too much, whereas someone like Andy Brassell is the opposite I think.

I know context changes things, but in previous situations where we've been in relegation trouble, if someone said we'd go into the January window, sign Trippier, with Ramsay, Cantwell as potential signings, and a striker in the mix, with Howe as our manager and a few points from safety, we'd have thought we were dreaming. Ramsay and even Cantwell would have been pipedreams under Ashley.
