I was surprised when Liverpool went for Jota and not Jiminez tbh, he seemed perfect as a bit of a Firmino understudy. Jota seems to be doing really well though.

Genuinely tragic the way people like that try to make their own empty lives have a higher purpose of meaning by latching onto fairy tales from the past that have nothing whatsoever to do with them. Classy commewneteye advocate King Alfred ffs.

This is such a simplistic view on it, but it's absolutely right like.

I try to be cautious with what I say about other clubs considering how often fans of other clubs get Newcastle completely wrong, but it does seem like he was on a hiding to nothing at Spurs and, in the circumstances, his record wasn't exactly terrible. I watched them against Man United the other night though and that was as poor a Spurs performance as I've seen since the days of Chris Armstrong being their main striker.

Think I'm at about a 5 actually, solely based on the lack of other really poor teams like in most other seasons. This season it seems clear that the truly bad teams are Newcastle and Norwich, without any other clear candidates you could see going down. The new manager has a big job on their hands to keep us up, that's for sure.

That Ramsdale save really isn't all that.

Oof, Spurs are as bad as I've ever seen them.

Spurs getting rid of Poch looking every bit as ridiculously stupid as it did at the time

He's canny good like

Not sure what I'm missing that's supposed to be incredible about that Ramsdale save from Maddison's free kick? It's nowhere near the corner and at a decent height for him but you'd think it was Banks vs Pele the way Reddit has reacted to it.

I don't get the criticism or the defending of Jones tbh. He's not a manager so I wouldn't really expect him to do the right things a good manager would do, especially against Chelsea. He gets excused rather than criticised or defended in my book.

Still remember him having that half decent couple of months under Souness, him getting an £80k a week contract back when that was astronomical and watching our first game of the season against Man United at home (Luque's debut), the ball being played out to him on the left wing and it just trickling under his foot and out for a throw in. Just remember me and my mate more or less simultaneously saying '80 grand a week'

I wish I had the spell Martinez seems to have over people in positions of power in my own career like. Failing upwards with Swansea to Wigan to Everton to Belgium and linked with loads of top jobs whilst never showing anything to suggest he's any good at the top level. An F.A Cup with Wigan and a season of nice football with Everton are about as good as it gets. For all the worry from some about someone like Howe, I'd take him and probably everyone else who's been linked over Martinez without hesitation. I remember that second season at Everton in particular as being really, really bad.

As great as the potential is with NUFC at the moment, it still probably goes without saying that the Barca job and the very likely availability of the Man United job coming up rules out Ten Hag, as amazing as it would be. Man United might and definitely should be looking at Conte and Barca might very well go for Xavi, but Ten Hag has to be in the running surely.

I still maintain, like I did with a fair few Everton fans on Reddit, that he'll end up winning them around and they'll be the surprise package this year. Providing they get their main players back from fitness, they'd be my bet for getting that 4th place that's up for grabs.

IIRC Gerrard's was his hamstrings and he got his wisdom teeth taken out to solve it, which is still something that completely baffles me.

If Newcastle ends up being anything like Neom or The Line then people will be in for a bit of a rude awakening like. The massive ambition and huge promises were there for those things, but mojo has it absolutely right about there being more money than sense. It shouldn't be the same because spending money on football clubs is at least possible compared to the literally impossible things they had planned for Neom, but that doesn't mean the people with the money who are in control of Newcastle now are in any way safe hands that can be trusted to make the right decisions.
