It's not the same for the opposite reason you're saying. Shearer didn't perform for England despite being seen as a top class player for his club. Maguire has performed at a consistently excellent level for England despite being seen as a poor player for his club.

Was thinking similar. Distinctly remember Batty lobbing a through ball to Shearer and him absolutely blasting it in against Portugal. I remember thinking "I wish they'd do that for Newcastle" because we were poor at the time, I didn't think to myself "you know what? They shouldn't be playing for England"

Why would you drop a defender who's on a goalscoring run with England that most strikers would be happy with? Absolutely no idea what people are thinking. Is it too much of a mental burden for people to carry that despite being shit for Man United he's very good for England?

Someone would need to talk me into wanting Werner like. I remember putting him in my World Cup fantasy team based purely on his stats running up to it and he was dreadful. Since then I haven't seen anything better from him, only missing sitters and being perpetually offside.

Just my opinion like, but I think Liverpool has a much stronger and more unique history with it than anywhere else in the country. Mainly just because of how recent a lot of their history with it is. A lot of the North East's relationship with it died with previous generations and was then wrongly re-interpreted as tribalism and patriotism by many in the generations that followed imo. Probably one for another thread like, but still.

I like the idea personally, but Liverpool has a really strong socialist history that's still going relatively strong and designs like that still suit them now.
