The fact that he’s even getting asked that question in the first place shows there’s an issue with the ownership, though. He’s says they’re fighting every day. Okay, fine. What are they fighting every day for? To buy players? Fair enough. It’s a tough market out there when you’re shopping for world class players but don’t have the funds to compete. But there’s other things that they could do that doesn’t require fighting to show the fans that they still hold a vested interest in the club. Announce a new training ground. Christ, announce a new CEO and DoF. Give us something. We’re a week away from the new season starting. The manager who has delivered consistantly from day one and who got you Champions League football TWICE and brought our trophy drought to an end should not be needing to answer questions about whether or not the owners still care about the club. Don’t put him in that position. Back the man. Give him the tools and the people he needs to do the job.

I don’t think they’ve lost interest, but I do definitely think we’re no longer a major priority for them. But when you put it like that, though, lost interest/no longer a priority basically becomes interchangeable. For all of YAR’s bluster about “being number 1”, I think it’s possible that, pre-takeover, they might have had the idea of that being achievable without actually knowing the intricate details of PSR and not being able to spend whatever you want. It’s probably dawned of them that, yes, this is going to be more of a slog than we first realised, and do we want to continue under the illusion of “being number 1”, or, are we happy with the occasional cup run (cup win) and using that as an entry to European football, or maybe we’re just happy challenging for lower European competitions like the Conference League or Europa League. We are never winning the league under the current system, that’s for certain. That is a closed shop now to a select few. We’ve hit our glass ceiling and it’s reinforced, triple glazed, bomb proof, and nobody is breaking through it. Maybe we just have to accept that this is it. But PIF will never say it out loud, so we’ll be here every transfer window wondering what’s going on.
