Is it actually being built? The market for commercial real estate is on its arse. Whatever the use- retail, office, student housing- all have taken an absolute beating. Yeah Radisson red hotel has been given go ahead. I agree we will need to relocate and Castle Leazes is still the best and only city centre site now viable. I can’t see a problem with relocating to Castle Leazes, of course there’ll be nimbys but with Leazes Terrace opened up and St James used to create a new and usable park it could benefit the whole city. There is another site available now which is where the newcastle arena is as that is closing in a couple of years. it has lots of land round and it and is a brown field site so would get through planning unlike castle leazes which i still think would be blocked. I agree the arena site would be fantastic for a new stadium, however I think the below development may put pay to this. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/homes-built-quayside-west-approved-19316403

I didn't realise that we could appeal the arbitration decision should it go against us. Not sure why I thought this but I thought the arbitration decision was final. Caulkin always said the legal action was about getting a decision, even if it’s rejected it would then allow them to appeal decision. I think it’s also considered that for any legal case to be successful they would have to show they’ve been through arbitration first.

Actually the most interesting part I thought was in relation to NCSL. Kennedy implied that over next few weeks will decide whether they proceed with legal action or not. Now being a glass half full kinda guy, my take is the arbitration is due to be heard shortly. I think De Marco’s tweet regarding a heavy 3 weeks, and Kennedy’s article yesterday where he basically said this is the quiet before storm implies this heavily. Despite the bullish nature of NCSL I think they’ve cooled their jets at least publicly re court action. I’m hoping this is due to confidence in the clubs case now being the quickest route via arbitration.

This is the thing though, I don't think it's a battle they can't win. "Can't" is a massive word in this context, and one that absolutely nobody can use in this situation whilst still maintaining any credibility whatsoever. Of course they can win a legal battle. They might or they might not, but they most assuredly can. But on what basis can they win? The only plausible way is if the buyers don't meet the current rules that the PL set in the requirements. This has already been said that they have. The PL definitely can't pick and choose who buys clubs and who doesn't, as long as everything was done that was asked, there really isn't much they can do imo. Exactly and that’s where the anti competition rules will come to bite them on the arse hopefully. At face value it appears the PL have breached confidentiality rules, have allowed outside interference and not followed their own rule book. If national journalists like Henry Winter were aware of which clubs were lobbying against it, you can bet your life there’s evidence. As HTT has alluded to we’ll be under new ownership by the last Friday in January at 3pm.

No room for takeover fatigue you fucking lightweights it’s there to be won ! dave mcp @davemcp 6h Said it before and I’ll say it again. If #NUFC fans want this takeover then we need to expose the corruption at #EPL by pressuring our MPs to use influence and get transparent disclosure of what both govt and EPL are hiding; @NCSL1892 are on it but need our help! ZebraZebraZebra Quote Tweet Rob Gilbert-Ovens @Thegeordiefaith · 8h Said it before and I'll say it again. Takeover goes through and goes through very soon. Newcastle Consortium Supporters @NCSL1892 Replying to @davemcp Too true and well said! The NCSL, every fan group and every fan in the country needs to stand up and lock arms and fight the way Amanda Staveley asked us to, in order that the legal teams can drag this over the line! It’s there to be won. Make it public and the evidence wins!

Thought I’d keep this one in here, if only for the boxing analogy it’s worth a read. Ryan E Maine @RyanMaine_ 19 Nov 10-8 is locked on. 12th will be exciting. Jonathan esland @jonathanesland · 29 Nov So round 12 is upon us. History suggests don't expect anything more than a good fight as it's still not clear if the fighters will raise their gloves to signal last round. If we can get one clear winner it will be nice to draw a line under this boxing match one way or the other. Marc Jones @Marc_1892_ · 29 Nov My concern is that this could be an unlimited-rounds bout and someone in the black & white corner might just throw in the towel before long, frustrated by the opponent holding and the absence of an adequate referee. Hope not. Jonathan esland @jonathanesland · 7 Dec when is that damn bell going to ring Bellhop bellThinking face Ryan E Maine @RyanMaine_ · 8 Dec From what I've seen the Purple corner has started the 12th with a few good jabs, despite the earlier knockdowns, the black and white corner has a devastating uppercut but finding the range and delivering the KO blow is difficult, as the purple corner keeps on clinching. Marc Jones @Marc_1892_ 8 Dec Well, this doesn't sound overly positive Neutral face Ryan E Maine @RyanMaine_ Replying to @Marc_1892_ and @jonathanesland It's better than it sounds, it can't all be smooth sailing unfortunately, but keep in mind if a fight ends without a KO it goes to the judges. Don't expect that to happen, expect to hear an update in next couple of weeks, which should provide a more indicative tone.

Yeah you may be right and the cost of the project put them off in the end. Though I think the stadium expansion cost was around 50 million, and the cost of the mackems new stadium was around 30 million around the same time or thereabouts. I certainly think our stadium would have cost more than the stadium of shite, but it certainly would have been a lot less than what a new stadium seems to cost these days.

Hall and Shepherd seen the pound signs and knew all the objections were going to lead to a lengthy public enquiry. He went for the quickest option and not the best in the long term in my opinion. There's no reason why they couldn't have pressed ahead with both the appeal and an application for the expansion of St James' Park at the same time. Planning Public Inquires aren't generally particularly lengthy or expensive in the grand scheme of things (unless it's something like Heathrow terminal 5). Generally they last a week or two and having thousands of objections is nothing unusual. That's assuming it would've definitively been refused, in my experience you can never know 100% what is going to happen at a council committee meeting. The fact that it was withdrawn suggests to me that either they weren't fully committed to it in the first place or that there was a fundamental issue that they were advised would make it unlikely to have been successful at appeal. That wouldn't be down to public objections. I think the friends of Leazes Park had the likes of English Heritage involved, it would definitely have gone to government for a full public enquiry. I just think it boiled down to economics in the end and they wanted the extra capacity in the quickest time frame possible. Certainly would have been interesting had it been built, though like most new stadia built around that time it might now have looked dated in comparison to Spurs etc now.

What he’s basically said is we will hopefully have an idea of where this is heading in next 2 weeks. He previously said timescale was important to keep PIF at table, but i think he’s changed tact on that and indicated they are happy to wait for now. He also said that there have been things that have happened in last 2 weeks which can be viewed as positive developments. He was certainly upbeat tonight regarding this going our way in the end.

This is eaxactly what the 1997 proposals were. I wrote about all this back in 2010 . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/newcastle-and-the-north-east-as-it-might-have-been.1009531/post-53090947 How much improved is that artists impression of Leazes Terrace. What a shame that certain people within the city couldn’t see past the end of their own nose. In reality their 36 thousand petition was a massive minority, there was even rumours at the time they collected signatures at joker park on match days. When our takeover happens I would love PIF to revisit this and with their backing it could be even greater than Hall and Shepherd’s vision.

Decent response from Rishi Sunak to a fans letter, I do think this was a good play by the NCSL and is keeping it in the political arena - ‘I am aware that Newcastle United have confirmed they have launched legal proceedings against the Premier League following the failed takeover bid by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. 'Unfortunately, I am not in a position to comment on these proceedings, but I hope they can be appropriately resolved in a timely manner. 'Lastly, I am writing to let you know that I have contacted the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to bring all these matters to their attention and raise with them all the points you have made in your email. 'I have asked for a formal government reply on the matter and I will, of course, let you know as soon as I have received a response. ‘Thank you again for taking the time to contact me. If there is anything I can do to help in the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in touch.'

Call me cynical but if they’d mistakenly put tickets up for sale in the gallowgate I might have believed them, but the fact they were corporate tickets tells us all we need to know. I don’t have a problem with corporate season ticket holders taking a percentage of the 2000 places, however absolutely no tickets should be on general sale for these games.

I enjoy your positive posts WM but for fear of being a pedant t***, please could you learn to use the "Copy link to Tweet" option to make the Tweets easier to read Noted I previously used to but for some reason my phone has stopped working when copying tweets for some reason. I’ll try to sort it though ?

Absolute disgrace I wouldn’t put it past this regime hawking them to corporate scousers. At anytime this is unacceptable and makes us look small time, but when capacity is limited to 2 thousand ? If any of them tickets end up in the hands of Liverpool fans when our lot can’t get in it’ll be a f***ing outrage. Of course they'll be hawking them off to the Scousers. They did that when we played them a couple of seasons ago despite 1000s of NUFC fans not even being offered the chance to buy a ticket. The crowd will probably be 50/50 that day. Thankfully I'll be nowhere near the place. Agree completely another reason why this regime is rotten to the core, they’d happily sell out their own supporters for a few extra quid. They've taken these down now and said it was a "mistake". I understand a % of the tickets available will go to hospitality but should go to existing hospitality holders not general sale, should be a small percentage but they absolutely should not be selling them like this, and certainly not before they have even engaged on their plans for the return of fans let alone before they have communicated it. Mistake my arse, but fair play for bringing this to people’s attention. Looks like you’ve had a result in getting them to take it down. Selling corporate tickets to visiting fans, or even giving them the chance to buy them would have been the ultimate insult to our fan base.
