This Diaz guy seems like the ideal signing for us in our current predicament. He is clearly scoring goals for fun in the Championship (where we most like will end up next year) and is young enough to become a solid player in the Premier League for us in the future

We were well in that game in the first half and I actually thought we played very well despite the score line. I would fancy our chances if with 17/18 games to go we had three top quality signings in the first 11 ready go, but I just can’t see it. Ideally we’d have to win at least half of those remaining games to survive and need new bodies in straightaway to improve the quality of the team and give everyone another lift.

Spending £25 million on him is exactly the type of signing that has me worried that we will panic and waste the money we are allowed to spend under FFP. I just don’t see why we can’t play a 4-3-3 with Hayden, Shelvey and Wilock being drilled to understand how to defend and attack as a three. Stick Joelinton on the right and keep ASM on the left and ask the guy to start to track back with some actual urgency. That could have got us through to January with some sort of structure before we can replace the centre of the pitch

I really don’t think that central defensive positions are our number one priority. Obviously we need more quality there, but there are more pressing areas that we should be focusing on especially when you think Tarkowski will cost us quite a large sum without really improving the first 11 drastically. Spend the money on other areas of the pitch first and see how we go

I’d take Lingaard and Tarkowski, but we badly need someone to push Wilson and someone else to slot into CM
