I think Ashley has shown how important a striker is. You can probably limp through a season with a gap elsewhere but strikers are worth so many points. If we only sign one more, I’d prefer it to be a striker for that reason. I’d be fairly indifferent about that as a window altogether, but I’d be disappointed overall with the window if that last signing was anything else… if that makes sense.

Still a massive risk to go into a season with him as the only striker. Regardless of how we might try wrap him in cotton wool, he’s been injury prone for years and will likely get injured at some stage. Not getting a striker in would be a failure. I’d put that as the most important position to strengthen right now, closely followed by RW and CM.

He’s also played a full season of first team football in France’s highest league. Anderson’s only experience is six months in League Two. Ekitike was also sent out on loan the season before last to some Danish team IIRC. Not sure he would’ve been a guaranteed starter had he moved here, which is what people are advocating for Anderson. He’d benefit a lot more from going on loan to a possession based Championship team with a progressive manager, rather than sitting on our bench. One more full season out on loan and he’d be about there, imo.

Our fanbase always want to throw a youngster in at every opportunity He’s had six months in League Two and two pre-season friendlies. PL football is so far away from that. Throw someone in at the deep end and you’ll end up like a Longstaff.

Not wrong at all. A striker, RW and midfielder would be fantastic but in reality, a pre-season of proper coaching and a competent manager is just as much of an improvement.

How many players are successful after they leave Barca? It always seems to me that they are completely mediocre or massive flops. Messi, Emerson Royal, Trincao, Firpo just some recent examples that come to mind. Feel like I’m missing some obvious stars.
