Because of the way FFP works with amortization. Selling Isak for example for £200m could help us fund five £100m players and their contracts for a couple of years. With how good we are with scouting players you know how much that would improve us. But like I said thats logic over emotion. Sometimes emotion trumps logic. Only 3/7 from pot 1 and 1/6 from pot 2 that are better than us on paper i'd say. And if we get Barca from pot 1, we cant get Real from pot 2. So chances of getting 2 better teams are 2/7x1/6 = 5%. Dont think the scoreline was flattering at all based on chances atleast. They looked dangerous sometimes, but couldn't convert it into clear chances. Atleast not that i remember. We on the other hand missed som pretty big ones: Tonali, Isak, Wilson all missed 1v1 with the keeper. Almiron had a chance on open goal, and could have gotten another if not teared down by the keeper. Also had a dangerous cross a feet or so away from a Wilson tap in. Joelinton header cleared on the line.
