The price on a player who was at his dream club should have raised some concerns that should have turned into an extensive background check. Did no one remember Ivan Toney? That was kind of a big deal. Blowing the majority of your limited money on a player who can't play is a complete disaster.

Barnes plays on the left and Miggy on the right. We need to find a RW this summer who will start over Miggy and let him come in off the bench.

Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

Gordon? We've got Barnes for that no? I would think we need cover for Almiron. He will turn 30 and Murphy will turn 29 this February. RW, then cover for Schar, then cover for striker. That plus getting Tonali back would provide some good depth. -
He didn't bring in Bruno, got completely used by Milan and Tonali's agent, then sold ASM for nothing. The success stories should be credited as much, if not more, to Eddie Howe. Ashworth is very replaceable and the trajectory of the club has much more to do with the manager and his players than Ashworth. This moment is an opportunity to upgrade the position.
-
Barnes seemed superfluous to Gordon but he looked like a good goal scorer before he got hurt and while Gordon was still finding his way. Not sure if that is fair. I don't think we had the funds for a quality RW at the time.

Who was responsible for a doing a background check on Sandro Tonali?
-
How does Tonali's suspension affect FFP? We know we don't have to pay him £11m in salary.

Beating a talented rival is one thing but having their fans whine and moan for days after makes it so much better. Its like winning all over again. Hilarious. -
Depends on which player gets injured between now and the window. How can we not have clarity on the Botman injury?
-
His pay will be cut allowing us to find a replacement in January but limited FFP funds will be wasted covering a position we already covered. He deserves a big pay cut. I'm not buying this gambling addiction excuse. He could have gambled on plenty of other things.

Too bad ASM couldn't be here for it. -
And they banked about €80m in transfer business. Best run club in the EPL.
-
Agree. Tonali answered the question what happens if Bruno goes down? Not who can we bring in to complement Bruno?
-
He won't replace him unless Bruno gets hurt (guess I chose the wrong word there). He is a similar midfielder to Bruno rather than being a defensive specialist or attacking midfielder that could play w/ him and compliment his style. I still think he is a great addition.
-
I still don't understand how we only got 23m for ASM. Was no one else interested? It wasn't too long ago that he was our only sellable asset. Apart from that, the Barnes for ASM was a good move that will result in more goals. Not doing anything on the RW may negate the additions on the LW though. We got a Bruno replacement in Tonali (which was needed) but not a Bruno compliment. Back line help for the future but not the present will be a poor consolation if we miss out on European football next season. Outgoing business was poor thanks largely to Mike Ashley regime. Barnes, Tonali, Livramento, and Hall could all be stars in the future. Overall gave it a 7.
-
Some on here dismissed Diaby because he doesn't help with the press and defense. Sounds like a bargain version of Diaby.
-
Agree. Like I said, he's look much improved and could turn out to be a bargain. I'm not ready to give a perfect 10 score for the transfer yet. Barnes looks like a steal. We needed some goals from the left wing and he can provide that.
-
No telling what he can do and he has improved, but he didn't look worth £45m while at Everton or with NUFC last year, and I thought ASM would fetch £30m at least. We bought Barnes for £6m cheaper and he at least scored a lot for Leicester.
-
Paid too much for Anthony Gordon (at least he looks much better this year than last) and then didn't get enought for ASM. Tonali, Barnes, Livramento, and Hall look great though. Still have RW and RCB holes.
-
We also have Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes who can play AM. His shot against City was ugly.
-
What a horrible deal for Tottenham. Only £30m and through 2033? They finished top 4 in three years since signing that deal. Castore getting a bargain from us for £5m. I'm not sure why we didn't just buy them out.
-
I read Mac Allister was £35m with addons to £55m, which is basically what we paid for Tonali who is a year younger.
-
Seems odd Chelsea would agree to loan only this year with obligation to buy next year. I would think they need the cash arrival now for FFP but we may not have the cash now. Barnes, Tonali, and Hall....wow.
-
That would be £11m transfer fee + someone accepting his £100k salary + Matt agreeing to leave for us to break even for FFP. He had two very good years (I remember most being excited at his loan and transfer) before this last one with the injury. I too am in the keep Targett regardless camp hoping he gets back to form.
