Thanks for everything. Shame it had to end in such a meh season

Maybe its the rain right now and weather generally lately but think it will go like this We'll win comfortably and it'll be apparent from early on and there will be no drama. Just shades of playing Palace in 95 when they needed a win to stay up. Was all over after 30minutes. I was kinda looking for some drama and tension. I've also recalled the last day against Hull after a miserable season in the bad days. They were already down, beat us, but nobody really cared. It was like a testimonial dick-around really and the atmosphere towards the end quite bubbly after news of the mackems being relegated drifted through. You couldn't say anybody there in those days wasn't a real fan.

Liverpool's history was worse than ours until the mid 70s when their era of dominance started so people could have said the same about them during that relative to Aston Villa or Everton e.g .
-
Nuno usually does a good stiffling job against us at home. Different ball game when he has to win though.

Haven't watched one since 2003. First two I seen were classics (89, 90) then every one I saw after boring beyond belief, including our two - which at least had the good grace to look like cup finals visually.

Thought it was an away supporters guide to second or third tier football from almost any season this century until I saw Liverpool.

All Summer Long by the Beach Boys just popped in my head

Still got the tape of that. All the post match interviews being conducted inside with the crowd singing in the background, they kept referencing the support in the sky studio and Keys ended the show after rattling through their upcoming programming with "We'll have to go, otherwise these boys (motions at the crowd) aren't going home tonight"

Shouldn't even be a contest. They've overachieved we've underachieved, tend to think overachievers deserve to prevail when its as tight as this. Like Bournemouth deserve Europe more than Chelsea
-
Think that's where I am at, we don't deserve to finish above you so it'd feel like playing badly and stealing a late win with a deflected goal against a team we should have beaten comfortably anyway. You take it but it doesn't alleviate any worries. It would bring less pleasure than it normally does which is very little beyond adding to the stats really whereas I can envisage smiling all summer about Spurs going down.

Bygones are bygones once the whistle goes on the season. Be a long time before anybody's back and a time people can ride out any slight delays in the commute for once. Used to always feel a bit sad to leave after that last game, like the last day at school. That Wolves game aside. Having said that I wish they wouldn't do this stuff unless there's actually something to celebrate. Just all gather in the middle and acknowledge the crowd from there, and vice versa, longer than normal would be my preference - saves any debate and embarrassment.

Nearly said at least we can enjoy this, all relaxed, cant lose but realised playing seriously and poorly but blagging a win is a possibility. Although extremely untypical of NUFC.

He was an unmitigating disaster at Benfica. "Benfica unexpectedly crashes in Israel for unthinkable numbers. Still, the Champions League is a reality – as his the ever present controversy caused by Souness. His signings – Michael Thomas and Mark Pembridge in July, Dean Saunders in January, Steve Harkness and Gary Charles in March – rarely ever get it right. Adding to this, the problems with the players are recurring and successive examples of stubbornness force him out, after a home draw against Campomaiorense. By then, Champions League, Portuguese League and Portuguese Cup were a thing of the past. Till the end, it is Shéu who leads the team, and holds on to the third place with a draw in the last match-day..." — Rui Miguel Tovar on the season events 99% of people knew he'd be a disaster here which could only have been based on what he'd done previously. I've never even said I want Howe out, haven't even voted on the matter. Just because people can accept the reality this has been a poor season and are dismissive of the excuses for it doesn't automatically mean that.

Only winning a cup at Liverpool and Galatasray was failure. Why do you think they sacked him? Those two clubs were the dominant forces. Finishing 2nd had been a bad season for Liverpool for generations prior to that, they were midtable under Souness and he finished 4th at Galatasaray which is hard to do (though he did the same at Benfica which is as equally difficult) They also played one top division club in that cup run and he never won another FA Cup game at either Liverpool or Southampton which included multiple upsets, normally at home. And by all accounts was going to get sacked by Blackburn when we hired him.
-
My first game against West Ham was in 1989 when we were officially relegated. Circle of life.
-
Even though it panned out differently Gullit and Dalglish were good, sound choices....but Souness!?! The only justification you can make is that they wanted someone to sort out the misbehaving Bellamy's and Dyer's of the world... shame about neglecting the whole football side but.
-
Weird things to say and couldn't be more wrong. Thought Souness was one of the worst managers of all time from the moment he ruined Liverpool and then failed everywhere else he went.
-
No because Bilbao/PSV are PL relegation fodder - Quarabag not even, we had a comfortable LC run until we got City, most of our managers have won at Villa who aren't supposed to be distinctly better than us that beating them with 10men is an achievement and Dalglish only lost by more the two goals once too iirc (Leeds)
-
Damning by faint praise most of that. Half of those achievements should go without saying.

Had major doubts we'd do enough in the summer to affect a turn around to see anything other than another transitional middling season next year anyway but pretty bummed out that it looks like were not even going to try before the window even opens. Was hoping we'd shift at least six players to then replace, wasn't even thinking additions.
-
Does anybody actually like these things? Even for kids its got to get boring by the third time around. Just seems like some dickheads did it (Chelsea, Birmingham) then everyone else has to follow just to show they can. Just a jazz band would be better or better yet nothing.
-
Was undecided either way. This season at the minimum warranted a serious conversation internally about it and we are beyond stale so there was virtue in freshening things up in itself alone. Still have that nagging Sword of Damocles feel about next season which I cant imagine reaching the heights of previous seasons and whether we can get enough done in the summer to effect that - feel there needs to be a lot to cause even fanciful optimism on that and that feels unrealistic and unlikely, but who knows what's been plotted behind the scenes, had enough time to write this one off a plan for it.

Thought Michael Jackson was managing Young Boys Bern

Retracting, just in case
