In this dimension its not possible to build a big stadium anywhere or anyhow where many of the seats aren't 'level 7' esque in terms of view and distance from the pitch.

Abramovich deciding the spend his ill-gotten gains in the Premier League effected us more than anyone. Chelsea shoved us out of the CL picture when we were becoming established there. Jose would have probably ended up managing us. We were going to go for John Terry in the event that Chelsea did a Leeds.

Nowt worse than Man United winning and helping Liverpool win the title

Harsh on SBR that. Helder, Gallagher, O'Brien, Bowyer, Acuna were great value. Lua-Lua wasn't a bad at all at the same price as Des Hamilton and less than Guivarch and Andersson. Probably more hits than misses considering we begin in midtable.

Swindon away 91, think the 3-2.

Couple of those types haven't commented today yet. Funny that.

Do Carlisle ever not lose? And Rangers shitting the bed after all that hard work

...And no injuries Oh well

Can personally totally live with a horrible broken second half to maintain the comfort of a two goal cushion.

Always takes a while for Everton to get penalties

If we'd beat them in the 5th round that year we'd have had Sheffield United, Oldham and Palace QF, SF and final.
-
It just doesn't seem right to me from a sport or entertainment point of view that they'd have been fine if they'd just muddled around in midtable showing no ambition at all.

Think it was goals difference, if we beat Leeds and Forest by enough it was in our hands, possibly hence the equaliser - ironically because Man U fan and Forest keeper chucked them in the previous Sunday. Scars are still fresh at my end apparently.

I thought we were going to win the league when we lead, certainly Sung as much, so must have been on. Can't remember what the actual standings were at that time. Guess it was because it was our hardest game imho of the time. Alan Hansen said that night we played "probably the best football' he'd ever seen in this country "but" and it made me feel so peculiar.

95/96 is littered with them. Hislop getting injured at Chelsea and them scoring immediately, think a quickly taken freekick or something was afoot. December and our second defeat in all comps. Think it'll be that season for me because even with a good replacement for Sir Bobby we weren't breaking past Man U or Arsenal or even newly minted Chelsea then but could have prevented Man U dominating and Arsenals foothold if we take their CL money in 96. Then any appointment bar Keegan and none of that would matter.

This. Its been swings and roundabouts there like anywhere else and using an example when its good. Its been alternately dead/toxic and a den a few times since the 80s and don't recall anybody holding it up in the post hooligan days as anything special until very recently. Same with Forest. Could very easily at any point in the PL era find terrible atmospheres there (specifically recall a West Ham game around 2001, think Fowler scored) They're the joint best away fans at SJP over my time though, with Man United.

Swindon was a hell of a shout. Similar conditions. Think I can see those three lasses on the crash-barrier when Scott Sellars (of all people) shoots over on their season video and on our version when were taking a corner the lad with the fluroscent yellow on his coat sleeves. Think I started wearing the replica tops the following season for whatever reason, possibly superstition after that 11/13 win start, remember changing into matchday wear when we were losing at Millwall and went on to win and when I can see myself in the crowd 91/92 and earlier despite having the shirts I'm not wearing them. Definitely became widespread with the asics kit (and warmer weather).

Had Keegan only been allowed to sign Brad Friedel when we had him on trial all that time instead of all that finicky red-tape, we'd have been sorted for two titles. He had Sami Hyypia (and someone else iirc) on trial too, which would have gone a long way a few year later
-
All the biggies mentioned. Missing out on Jeffers and Zenden and getting Bellamy and Robert instead. Peter Schmeichel getting those reebok boots as a kid instead of getting into farming business. Back to back champions whilst he's covered in pig shit would have been sweet.

Tranmere wasn't even that lucky, it was away and there was four or five easier draws, they got to the final of the league cup that year and had beaten three PL teams at home already, they were one of three Championship teams plus a league one or two team - which obviously Chelsea got at home.
-
Anybody know what game that is? By crowd density and the time of year it seems to be I'd guess Blackburn 91/92.
-
Yep. Four premier league teams in five rounds and were calling that easy, perhaps is by this season's standards
-
Yet another thing reminiscent of 94/95 about this season. Man City in both cups.
