  1. In a sense. But largely due to regularly winning their own uncompetitive leagues thus competing in Europe every year. Their normal gates were around 15,000 however.
  2. The new recruits to the proposed league are barely better than the league they're already in. Certainly not sufficiently better to justify ripping up the fabric. Playing would be also rans like Anderlecht, PSV and Brugge is not better than them playing Bilbao, Espanyol and Valencia.
  3. Good for them. But what a farce this is. Dual ownership of a player like they had in Italy could be an avenue going forward to get around some of this.

'have they (Brum) ever filled their ground?" Immediately followed by: "Still don't understand why Sunderland haven't done kids for a quid or ST can buy extra ticket for a tenner this year" Which if they did would be followed by 'why can't we compoyt with the likes of West Ham when we get similar crowds'
  5. Sounds like us in 1991/2. They're going to break our second tier attendance records unfortunately.
  6. Thought that was our home record against them there. But that's one L in 21 not 19. My mistake.
  7. We were electric that night in 92/93. Best performance I'd seen an NUFC side put in. ...probably got surpassed at the next game (if it was Bristol City)
  8. Just need Ferguson to come out and deflect from a woeful Manchester United performance tomorrow and bang on about how amazed he was that the the awesome Villa were well beaten. Howay Taggart let's be having you.

    Match Atmosphere

Away fans in good voice again. Seem to have cracked something here. For the record the Villa crowd has been dire, standard in my experience. And something a lot of clubs are talking about. Its as much a generational and country thing as anything else.
  10. I hate it in rugby. Almost every try gets checked and the bureaucratic back and forth between the ref and the vj about angles and what they can and cant determine are minutes you'l never get back that were almost impossible to squander as badly on anything else. So bound to happen.
  11. Forgot some of them games. So since 93 we'll have played them in one of the cups at least 13 times. A cup tie every two and a bit seasons.
  12. If clubs are going to push to the limit, which they'd probably be remiss not to, I don't see why future windows would be too different to this even after everyone gets used to it. Everyone will be reliant on selling, even Man U to turn that squad around, and with few able to buy big certainly on their silage, no Saudi league and no new owners able to spend to get things churning away again.

    NUFC Transfer Rumours

Everybody stays where everybody is and the inventors and peddlers of ffp sleep happily.

I know. Was just thinking about that with a meeting with Tomasson potentially ahead. Its the time scale and level of it that's still hard to grasp. Was scorched earth within a year. Not just the squad but squad harmony and playing style and in a relegation battle. However Dalglish was only one win away from being statue worthy by the standards the makems have set in that thread.

Statues tend to be built in honour of people after they pass. Always think literal eulogies would be better before than after. Keegan before anyone for me. To the point were I'm even a bit defensive of this 'shit in the cups remark'. Keegan in the cups was a massive improvement on what went before where getting past the first round of the league-cup was a treat and he made the 5th round twice in four years, when we'd made it twice in the previous 12yrs and a first QF in 18years. Luton was probably the only FA cup game we deserved to lose.
  16. Getting spooky now. 2012 scramble for the ships vibes.

Seems like one of those things where they don't get that other clubs have legends and heroes, special numbers and ends just because they don't have any.
  18. 92/93 away in the 5th too. Last minute winner was a pisser mostly because an atmosphere for a replay against the Man City of the day the way the ground was then would have been something to experience. Was rocking for Rotherham and Port Vale in the previous rounds.
  19. Right behind Blackburn now. Takes all the edge off it, big ticket allocation, easy journey (by our standards)
  20. Thought Villa/Chelsea as we've Villa next and feels the sort of thing that happens once a round. We're due a cup game against Blackburn mind. Only been about 25 in my time

    Chelsea in the cup 2005?
  22. Yeah I Thought Dubs not coming caused a few uncertainties tonight, was one where he came and stopped that nearly created a chance for them out of a nothing cross. Still seems like they're still not used to each other. Was Botman on at least one occasion so maybe still is the case. Whilst Dixon raved about a cross then on replay said there was nobody near it. Could be the case with a regular cross but a set play cross that is nowhere near anybody is not good in old money.
  23. Our Villa Park record was decent until Bruce really. 6defeats going back to 1989(aka in my time) before that. The same year being the last time they won at SJP against 11men. Is it 3 home defeats in 56years to them? Used to regularly get to the away game and never saw us lose. 4wins and 3draws. Having said that I'd not be despondent with any improvement on last seasons game on this occasion.
