To try and put a positive spin on all this, in a number of ways I think I’m actually glad we’ve had these rules invented to slow us down. My biggest worry about the takeover was that we’d lose our identity and turn into a soulless PSG type club where we’d quickly lose our connection with it and care less and less the better we did because it wasn’t “ours” anymore. In reality, the ups and downs of the last 3 and a half years have been really, really fun and I don’t think it would have been as fun if we’d just signed 18 world class players and won the league (probably?) this year. It really feels like we’re earning our success and we’re doing it with a squad/manager/staff who 100% deserve what they getting. As fans we’re probably as close and connected to the club as ever before, cheering on players we love, winning and losing WITH them. Embrace the fact that the Villa result hurt so much because it means you care. We can’t realistically be accused of buying our trophy and any success we have in the future will again be earned, not given. These rules are just one more “fuck you” Newcastle United need to overcome and we’re already well on the way to doing so.

6 nowt and the wind firmly in our sails going into Brighton.

As intense as this is, I’m still reminding myself to be grateful that it’s for Europe and not relegation. 3rd year in a row we’ve been chasing the champions league in the final month.
-
2 bloody good headers from Richarlison now. Could easily have been 2-2 just from them.
-
Now more than ever I fully believe that trophy winners should automatically qualify for the Champions League. Never thought about how appropriate that would be until about 15 minutes ago.

Howe himself has confirmed we’ve bid big money for Guehi and Khusanov since the Anderson thing so there’s either money there to spend (and presumably more now since those bids) or the club genuinely don’t know what they’re doing. Based on the below quotes from the Summer, it sounds like we’re just being careful and waiting for the right deals/players. “Without going into the individual situation here, we've tried to sign several players,” Howe admitted when asked about putting sole focus on signing one player in Guehi. “It's never been about one player. It can never be about one player, because as soon as you're in that position, then your negotiation strength is over. "So, no, we've tried for several targets, but it still has to be the right player though. And there isn't an unlimited number of players. It's not like you can, well, we'll just go on to the next one, the next one, the next one. Because then the quality dilutes and then you have to question whether you're doing the right thing for the long-term future of the club. "There isn't a bottomless pit of money. We're not able to spend that way. Everything that we do has a long-term consequence. So you've got to be very sure whatever you do is right for the long-term future and short-term future of the club.” When asked what the ‘right player’ is for Newcastle, Howe added: “The right player is multi-factored, really. “It's the right age, the right deal as in transfer fee, the right wages, then the right player to actually come into your squad, the right positional need. “There's loads of things. If one of those things is not right, especially financially for us, it puts us in a difficult situation."

It probably is a bit odd that even the person who suggested signing him is not giving him minutes in dead matches. He said recently there’s currently no plans to loan him out next season so they must rate him.

The players will have been fit enough to play since we have someone looking after that and he’s done a really good job so far. Players have definitely been rotated when needed this season and there’s no reason to think Tindall isn’t getting the same information Howe normally gets. What’s more likely is we just got hammered by a very good team who played very well. It’s a shame but one game changes nothing.

Surely kicking the ball as hard as possible into the bottom corner from a penalty has to be the easiest action in football? It’s a free shot with nobody anywhere near you. It’s definitely the most low effort/high reward thing.
-
I think at that point he was their second most expensive signing ever. The standoff last summer was definitely payback.

Turning defeats into draws would help massively with the next step. We’ve won more games than anyone bar Liverpool but we’ve lost 9 which is just 1 less than Everton, Bournemouth and Fulham. Only Tottenham and Southampton have fewer draws than us.

In the league, he’s got 21 attacking returns in the equivalent of 22.6 games. Murphy-esque in his output. Gordon has 39 in 56 for context.

“Marc Guehi's father "Did he offend anyone? He did the right thing by wearing the rainbow armband but people are having a go at him for what he wrote. He was just trying to balance the message. He was saying 'You gave me the armband, as a Christian I don't believe in your cause, but I'll put it on'."
-
Definitely. It’s odd to see so many turn their noses up at Cunha but are happy to wave something far, far worse through. We will need to sign dickheads eventually because they tend to be the best players but this is something else entirely.
-
In the league over the last 3 seasons, he’s got 36 attacking returns in the equivalent of 48.5 games.
-
Next season, Murphy plays for an hour to get us 3 or 4 up then Cordero comes on to get some no pressure game time.
-
Can’t be a coincidence that he shares the same number and even the same crossing style as our greatest ever right wing assist king Chris Holland? Is there something going on the club aren’t telling us?
-
If we get the right players in this summer we’ll be unstoppable next season.
-
God clearly hates him. He’s scored loads of own goals this season.
-
More league assists than Beardsley now.
-
“He’s doing well but…”
-
There’s only about 6 weeks of the season left so I’d not be surprised at all if he’s not back till preseason. Hopefully winning the next 2 games and almost guaranteeing CL will take away any pressure he might be feeling to hurry back.
