Nothing funnier than policing what others can and cannot say on, of all places, an internet forum. Same usual suspects too.

Based on Parish's interviews, Palace seem a bit desperate themselves no?

Believe we've made four at this point, but someone correct me if I'm wrong

Annoying that Parish is taking a ridiculous and massive gamble by rejecting each repeated bloated offer of ours, and now has been rewarded with the Schar straight red... Wonder if it'll coax an extra few million out of us
  5. Just watched the replay of the game... What a massive massive effort from the lads. Thought we understandably looked rusty, Gordon especially in that opening half, and Barnes looked more a Championship player than a 50m pound one. All in all though how can you possibly be anything but chuffed at that result? Statement win from us down a man, and we look like we'll be much more of 22/23 newcastle than 23/24. Also: Thought Longstaff looked much much more effective, more like his usual self, which is a fantastic sign

Central point was really just that Guehi doesn't immediately upgrade our fit starting xi - since the immediate evidence does not suggest he is better than either schar or botman. Points well taken though a move with a long timeline in mind.

Might be a blessing in disguise - bizarre how hard Palace have held the line despite there being zero other bidders, and off a data set that is pretty much no larger than the Euros. I have no doubt we have offered them the most they'll get. Starting xi upgrades are needed of course, but its honestly not even clear Guehi gets in when we're fully healthy. People forget just how good Schar was last season, save a few flubs. And, not for anything, he was arguably the most dangerous player on the pitch in that SUI England match, outshining Guehi himself. All of which is to say we'll be fine. Worst case, we go into January with PSR reserves to reinforce as needed - a luxury we didn't have last year. No doubt we're still going to smash the league this year.

Or they can hang on for another year, Guehi has a breakout year, and they recoup the 65 they could've gotten from us anyway despite his contract expiring. Guehi could've had this signed sealed and delivered by simply stating he wanted to play for newcastle, and would not be staying at palace, but he didn't.

Basically gave Palace everything they wanted and then some. As long as we aren't fire selling Bruno, Isak, Gordon, Tonali next window then it's probably defensible if the club think he's the next big thing. I don't personally see it just based on a few games against weak countries in the Euros and an average season in the prem, but trust the club have put their finger on a gem here. Worth noting he's only a year older than Gordon.
  10. our Champions League aspirations
  11. Just search abroad like every other CL-worthy club... Weird we have to pin all our hopes on Noni Madueke, nice player sure, but we should have a wider scope than this.

I think the 50m range is a bit steep for him lol Perhaps im a bit miserly though

Calling a highly rated CB from a big 6 club with interest from Inter "average" is taking the piss tbh

I think the Guehi hype has clouded some judgment in here - yours included. Guehi had a nice tournament, but at this stage in their careers, its unclear who would be a more successful long term solution at CB. Chalobah is just a year older than Guehi, and arguably had a better season in more limited playing time than Guehi. All of which is evidenced by Chelsea fans' reluctance to let him go/frustration at his mistreatment at the club.
  15. Thats a possible interpretation for him to have I guess, but nowhere did I say that. Any functional transfer system would have active feedback/input from Howe. With that said, in any functional system, an elite DoF who's performed time and again at multiple clubs can't have a manager calling the shots over his head. Surely all'd agree that Howe is at his best when he's managing the squad. Yes, we don't know Guehi was solely a Howe move. But it does look like one.
  16. dont think any level of spin makes Marc Guehi worth 65m tbf. Think the league agrees as well, as that seems ballpark of Palace's estimate, and no one seems to be coming close of that valuation, ourselves included. Worth pointing out - smart clubs don't go around plunking down 15m extra cash in a PSR world just because X player fits the system well. That's just a surefire way to be unprofitable, as you'll never make back what you expended. What we really need is to give Mitchell the reins to do what he does best, and let Eddie do what he does best, and keep them segregated best we can. A Monaco/Mitchell style system where we bring in scores of youthful talent on cheap, both to grow the first team and make profitable transfer business is what's needed to press on. Guehi never fit the bill and was clearly straight off the Eddie wishlist, and I hope PIF will have the cajones to say to him in future windows that transfers aren't his turf anymore.

I'd give them 24 hours and then the offer is off the table, and then its time to move on and execute elsewhere. Can't let a small club, and what Parish has had for breakfast that morning, dictate our trajectory.
  18. Chelsea dumping young talent seems to be an MO so long as it bank rolls boehly's ridiculous transfer plan... We've already skinned them for Hall
  19. Many seem to not get this - too many on here will say Miggy isn't good enough to play on a Premier League pitch, and then in the next breath say they're only interested in world-class upgrades. Surely there's a middle ground? Not saying to go out and get an Osula, but I simply cannot be convinced there arent talented 20 somethings in the range of 20m we can't bring in and instantly upgrade our RW on what we have. Regardless, need some grist for the mill on here bc we've been chasing our tails now 2 months with no big transfer activity at cb or rw... think we're all a bit stir crazy at this point

On the mark. We need to be ruthless in transfer business, which includes walking away once your counterparty isn't negotiating in good faith. We have the luxury of shopping anywhere else for talented CBs and Palace have no leverage - we know Guehi is gone in 2 years. No reason to cave to Dougie's demands.
  21. Kulu would be an A+ signing. Don't feel we have what tottenham likely would ask though
  22. Upthemags

    Marc Guehi

Would love for us to tell Dougie to stick it, play some hardball and tell him we're gonna go shop in Europe. Can take the 50m now or 40m from some other in January. Either way we all know Guehi isn't signing that extension and ultimately they have no leverage.

Think its a buy for potential, as much as ability. Only just turned 24. Will be interesting to see if we bite on this third offer - will give us a real insight into just how confident top brass is in the lad
