Fulham 0 - 1 Newcastle United - 15/12/07 - post match reaction from page 15

Recommended Posts

I think we did ok to get the win, Fulham really aren't a bad team and in some patches our football was ok. If people complain about us getting a rare away win and a bloody rare cleansheet then i dunno why you bother!

Fulham were sh*t, we were sh*t, a lucky break at the end was the difference between two sh*t sides.

So?

So we didnt play ok, Fulham were a bad team on the day and people aren't complaining about the result or the clean sheet but how sh*t we played.

Is that clear enough?

But it doesn't matter how we played since we won

In the bigger picture I think it does, every further game that we play cr*p gives me less confidence for when we actually play a team that is good.  Secondly, I get no further confidence that Allardyce know what the hell is he doing.

Indeed it really doesn't matter how we play in a one-off game as long as we win it, in fact if we play sh*t all season and win all our games then fine, but that isn't going to happen, the longer you consistently play sh*t, the more likehood we will be in a low position in the league come the end of the season as we will get found out by better teams and there are quite a few out there - as we have already this season.

So by all means be happy for the result but not caring how we play isn't really seeing the wood for the trees.

Yeh i see where your coming from

I don't mind this season because Allardyce is changing everything and needs time to do so, it's a transitional season.

yeah, we're doomed!! :kasper:

We are only 5 point off Liverpool ffs, and we have not played well.  Oh and the wank fest over 'appy 'arrys team, who are just amazing and hughes' blackburn, hes done an awesome job there etc. etc.  Look at the league table - we arent playing great and surely we can get better - we are 5 points off 6 place or whatever.  People need to get a grip!!!  :frantic:

I agree to some extent it doesn't matter how you play if you win. I can't belive anyone thought we played 'ok' though. You've got to hold your hand up and say we were awful on Saturday. So were Fulham, obviously.

No we didn't play well, but at least we defended relatively competently even if it was against Fulham. It might not be anything to shout about but we've dfended badly against plenty of similarly shit teams this season so I wouldn't take it as a given. And an away win is an away win so personally I'll save any carping till the next Deby/Reading/Sunderland type fiasco and be thankful for small mercies with this one.

The fact is that when one of the 'big four' have a rotten game and win they get plaudits (from the media if not the fans). We play a rotten game against a rotten Fulham and people complain that we win? We aren't really at the stage where we can be choosey about how we win.

Read Oliver's match report: -

"in front of the same fans who Barton had branded vicious a couple of weeks ago."

"With Oba Martins skulking in the dug-out after his substitution"

He's a s*** stirring t***.

I saw Martins celebrate when we scored so wasnt sulking then

I was telling Martins to hurry up and get off at the match as he walked off but I just thought it was disappointment at being substituted, which is understandable. Oliver has no credibility anyway.

The way Oliver has gone about his reporting of NUFC since he lost his big pal FFS has been embarassing as it has vindictive. I actually hold him partially responsible for the OTT way the crowd reacted in the Liverpool game. He's been fanning the flames of despondency all season.

Problem is, too many Joe Soaps believe what he writes as gospel.

I agree that in the long term it does matter how we play.  Winning ugly in the odd game or difficult away games is fair enough (although we should not have to resort to such tactics for teams like Fulham) but if that style of football is all that is on offer for every game home and away, I think many supporters will stop going.

In the current climate when the likelihood of any team outside of the top 4 winning anything is remote and the cost of going to games is so expensive, the least one can hope for is to enjoy watching the football on the odd occasion.

However, this season is a transitional one and maybe we will just have to suffer for a while until Sam gets his message across to the team.  I hope that there is a purpose behind what he is trying to do at present and that in due course it will all become apparent.

Doubly bitter as he was Roeder's mate too. Now he gets nowt from the boardroom and not much off the coaching staff either. It would be different if he was consistent but he always tended to play down the poor performances under Roeder.

You're always thinking about what can go right. Sometimes you think about what can go wrong. We tried to make substitutions in the right areas, and in the end it helped make a difference in helping us get the winner.

Mark Viduka flicked it on for the penalty, and Joey put it in the back of the net.

This might explain a few things as to how the big man views the players...

No wonder Viduka's on the bench if Sam thought he was the playing shit as a right midfielder.

Under the reigns of Souness and Roeder he hardly ever blamed the manager (or for that matter Chairman, focussing mainly on the foreign players who wouldnt give him interviews. How many times did he often cry that it wasnt Roeders fault the coffers were dry. Martins and NZogbia were often cheap and easy targets, taking the brunt of criticism. He obviously didnt want to ruffle the feathers in the managers office. I'm jumping to conclusions but i'm sure it wont have escaped Allardyce's attention that whilst he managed Bolton, Oliver wrote several damning articles on him following Newcastle v Bolton games. If SA is loathe to give Anal an exlusive or interview then to pettily snipe at him from Thomson House is nothing short of pathetic.

We are only five points off Liverpool, who supposedly are title contenders. Does that mean that we are title contenders too?

If we win at the weekend, which we all expect, we could go 8th depending on other results. Doesn't sound like he's doing such a shit job now.

if you play well constantly but lose you think it will turn for you...if you pick up points while playing consistently poor you think you will eventually get caught.

I've seen a huge change in the context of his recent articles. I don't believe he is getting his interviews anymore. His supposed "exclusives" are all straight from .co.uk too.

When we are playing poor and picking up points i think that it means there is more to come from players. Football is all about opinions, it depend on whether your a glass half full or empty guy.

Sadly most people on here are half empty but claim to be realistic.

i'm unsure the tactics of our manager will get better performances from our players

We'd have to win by 5 goals, while Villa loses by 5...

Would be quite a round  :coolsmiley:
