I think so unless there has been a change in law with players contracts...

Forget the Euros, signing a full back or finally putting out the flames of the mackem transfer blaze - THIS should be the highlight of the summer.

I think it might be worth giving him a new contract as player-coach. He's well liked around the training ground, seems to have picked up some form too.

 

We desperately need squad depth for the Europa League and with CM and CF both being problem positions during the African Cup of Nations he'd be decent option to have.

ALAN Smith is set to turn down a coaching role at Newcastle United after being confirmed as the first summer exit from St James’ Park.

 

The 31-year-old’s contract runs out on June 30 and he will be leaving the club that signed him for £6million after turning down an offer to return and start his coaching career in Newcastle’s Academy.
