The College Dropout
People on this board are obsessed with net spend. Net spend doesn't matter, especially when you sell 2 players for a combined fee of £12.5. That's more than enough money to replace them. When people bring up Sam "only" spending £10m net, it just reeks of desperate justification of bad signings and wasted money. That is all.

Ridman
Why buy Smith for 6m only to use him as a defensive midfielder? Couldn't we just sign a half-decent DM for 6m instead? =_=

Bottom line is, you couldn't buy the quality we got on the right hand side from Solano and Dyer for £12.5m Arteta £3m Elano £6m Bentley £3m Lennon £1m Muntari £6m There are bargains out there if your scouts are any good or the manager is willing to take a gamble on an unknown quantity rather than buy Geremi and Smith primarily because they have a load of Prem experience and are "good pros". I haven't seen Allardyce take any gambles like he used to at Bolton with the likes of Okocha, aging stars like Djorkaeff and Hierro or people who had lost their way like Diouf and Davies. Maybe it's because of the higher pressure and increased media attention at Newcastle.

UV
I think net spend is a fair a way to look at it tbh. If you can sell players to another team then they obviously added something to a squad and that will have to be replaced. Buys a Spanish LB for 7m and then continues to play a LW there instead, and a RW infront of him. To be fair to Sam, frustrating as it may be I don't care how much a player costs I'd rather he didn't play him if he doesn't think he's up to it than put him in the team anyway just because of how much he cost. Or maybe he justs hates Spaniards as much as Roeder did
