?

Rather have Taylor or even Rozenhal of Cacapa.

The sooner Taylor's away from the first team the better as far as I'm concerned.

I agree, he's a liability

Signing Brown would be an excellent bit of business. We've looked dodgey at the back with Roz and Cacapa struggling with the pace of the game at times, Brown would bring some much needed Premiership experience to the back line. However I don't see us getting him unless Man Utd sign Hutton due to the Neville injury.

Newcastle bid for Brown

Jan 4 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle

SAM Allardyce has made his first move in the January transfer market by slapping in a bid for Manchester United’s England defender Wes Brown.

That was the news coming out of the North West – and sources in Manchester told me today that Allardyce’s bid will have left his big pal Sir Alex Ferguson with a bit of a dilemma.

The Chronicle understands United also have another bid in for a player with an English club.

Big Sam’s interest in the 28-year-old, 14-times capped defender has been known from the moment he arrived from Bolton Wanderers in May and he looked at Brown’s situation in the summer.

But that situation has now changed with Brown, whose contract expires in June, having turned down a new £50,000-a week deal at Old Trafford.

Ferguson has another England international and his skipper Gary Neville still out injured while Johnny Evans looks likely to return to Sunderland on loan.

He has had Danny Simpson playing right-back in some games recently, but I am told that he has not impressed.

Brown, of course, can play at both right-back and as a central defender, and he would be an ideal signing for United in their current situation with both defenders Habib Beye and Abdoulaye Faye off to the African Nations Cup.

And United must be willing to top Brown’s latest offer from Man U – or why would they make a bid?

While the two high-profile bosses are mates, it remains to be seen whether Ferguson will do Allardyce a favour and sell him Brown.

Ferguson is a big admirer of Rangers right-back Alan Hutton but Spurs have moved in for the Scotland star.

Allardyce, of course, tried to lure Tal Ben Haim to St James’s Park in the close season but lost out to Chelsea and the bright lights of London.

Those lights have not gone out for the Israeli international, but they have certainly been dimmed at Stamford Bridge lately.

However, he is currently in the team, and talk of John Terry being out for the rest of the season has seen Avram Grant pay Lokomotiv Moscow £8m for their Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Allardyce would want to take Ben Haim on loan until the end of the season, but Grant wants £2m for defender, even though he picked him up for nothing in the close season.

United have banked a few quid as they have agreed to sell Matty Pattison to Norwich City.

The South African-born midfielder has been on loan with Glenn Roeder at Carrow Road since the start of the season and was discussing personal terms with the Championship outfit today.

United have agreed a sell-on fee with Roeder and Norwich.

Meanwhile, it looks as though there will be no immediate return to the United team for Joey Barton, even though he has been released from jail.

United have refused to comment on the Barton situation, but it is understood one of the conditions of his bail is he stays in the Sporting Chance clinic in Hampshire.

Zoggy Taylor Rozehnal Brown

That's more like it. ;)

Rather Brown at centre back and Taylor at right back tbh.

Also rather have Cacapa at centre back rather than Rozehnal too.

Taylor at right back?

Taylor's positioning at right-back is woeful IMO.

[superpessimism]

For some reason deals never go through when we're the first club linked.

Think he'll be going to Pompey. Sigh.

[/superpessimism]

Seriously though, if there's a bid from Pompey or Villa or Spurs or whatnot, what incentive would he have to choose us?
